May Be Thar will be launched in April-May 2010 along with some new variants of Mahindra's existing line up.

Where does the Bolero stand in terms of European crash worthiness norms?
Actually, where does the Scorpio and Xylo also stand?

I dont think they are suitable for autobahns, though they are marketed to US. I have seen few samples here in stuttgart. People wonder when it is on the road for test trials, as on the rear it says ''LEFT HAND DRIVE'' in big red bold letters.

Hardly consider a Bolero 4x4 slx to be cause for celebration, or something to write home about.

It's not airbags, but the design of the structure which matters. I expect the Xylo to be better than the Scorpio, but is it? And I wonder if crashworthiness figured in the product matrix for the Scorpio.

Might be for component (maybe even engine) testing and development.

Please post pics and driving experience of Bolero slx.4x4. Does it feel underpowered? It has de-rated engine. Iam really looking forward for pics and reviews.

Whats up with Thar Behram Ji? Any time lines you are looking at launching Bolero vlx 4wd? I hope Bolero VLx 4wd will not be another long drawn battle to be won!! M&M, don't let us pray so hard! God might as well appear before us and gift us Land Rovers instead!!:-)))

haha. Land Rovers over Mahindra.. may be some generous person will be kind enough to gift one.

BTW, Thar will start selling in South Africa around in mid April [Link] . It will be retailing there for about: ZAR:169900 which when converted to INR, comes about: 6.1 Lakhs for a basic S/T 4X4 version.

So if we exclude the Import duty, will it give any idea for its ex. Sh price in India? We can hope that it will definitely lesser than 6.1 lakhs.. (x Fingers crossed x)

Offroad maniac,
I was referring to GOD as that generous person!

Thanks for the info on price of Thar in SA. INR 6.1 ex-showroom is a decent price for a CRde 4wd.

Now its turn for M&M to honor we Indians by pricing it even lesser in the domestic market.

What is the competition to Thar is SA market at that price point? Can some one evaluate?

Members on SA forums are excited over Thar as some are comparing it for cheap alternative to Wrangler.
But for the price pt. it is compared against Suzuki Jimny, or may be some more well known Used 4WDs. Like, 'better buy a used LR or TLC than a new Mahindra' thing.. but Mahindra has gained respect there with Scorpio variants)

But what competition do we have here?

Another +ve pt is, Thar's Maximum length is: 3920 mm. That's under 4000 mm where there will be excise cut (right na?)
so.... Seating capacity of 2+6 (India) & length under 4mtrs.....

....Give me some sunshine... Keep the rains

Dear DB Sir, Spike. ..why so silence??

Does under 4 meter duty cut apply for MUV's also? Plus can you tell us what price is Jimny sold in SA?

Frankly I dont know the answer to both the questions. But regarding under 4mtrs duty, I commented it from the Gypsy thread where it was discussed that if Maruti can reduce Gypsy's rear overhang, it will be cheaper w.r.t duty cut. Just another hope may be...

as such the 4mt length is in combination with diesel engine of 1.4l or less and petrol of 1.2l or less.

really wish a 4wd hard top variant with decent creature comforts comes in for around 7-7.5 and i will be happy to buy

With the confirmed news on BD Sir's new thread, i think the Thar expectants will have good news real soon. So take a deep breath and wait for the price tag
