Hmmm. I think you guys should look out for clutch upgrade kits on a high priority (I can hear Khan_Sultan zooming off, into the distance, for yet another upgrade :)).

You'd be in the best position to compare. Is the Gypsy clutch as robust / abuse-friendly as that of the Mahindra CJ? I suppose you'd have to slip that much more due to the lack of diesel low-end torque.

Yes. My clutch got burnt badly in that OTR and had a "great time" covering 300 odd kms in 10-12 hrs.

To be fair to that person, my clutch was already 30-40% gone before the OTR and my friend took care of the rest:D

Gypsy's clutch also gets smoked if you try to pull someone out who is stuck in a spot in an OTR.

He he he.. my Gypsy is already in the workshop GTO -- undergoing some structural mods right now. Other mods are held up due to delay 'shipment' of parts from US.

Awesome Thread..!! Those are some really good Gypsies.. I am planning to buy a really used Gypsy and mod it myself.. Saw a couple of '87/'89 models for 35k - 45 K.. Any advice on some Gypsy specific stuff I should look out for before getting one.. Just that I dont want any irreversible damage..

I wont be using it for day to day driving.. This will be my third car..

Preferably, post-93 , since it will be narrow track version before that. Also, if your budget permits, try to get a MPFI Gypsy King : the 80HP and 103Nm torque will be good for offroading(also better mileage compared to the MG410W).

Hey guys, you guys seem to be putting ur Gypsys to real good use. Am actually interested in buying a new one. I talked to a Maruti sales guy, he said that he was not sure if Gypsy is available for sale for civilian use now and also was not sure if any of banks would finance it. He is yet to get back to me.

:OTThis might be a bit off the topic..

My Question: Is it true that new Gypsys are not available for sale for civilian use, also would I be able to get it financed if it is available, also what would be the waiting period like?

Yes, the Maruti Gypsy is very much available for civilian use and indeed you
can buy one from the maruti dealer near you. Booking amount asked is usually
around One Lakh Rupees to 2.5 Lakh Rupees, depending upon your rapport
with the dealer and delivery period varies between 3-6 weeks.
The Maruti dealer would the best place to get advice in regard to financing the Gypsy.

I agree 100%. There is a person in chennai who bought a brand new MG413 MPFi for around 5.5 ish if i'm not mistaken.

Wow. That's cheap for a brand new MPFI Gypsy. Just few days back I was at looking at the price list of Maruti Vehicles in a showroom and it mentioned the following prices on road for the Gypsy:

ST: ~6.2L
HT: ~6.4L

And I have heard that dealers don't even give any discount or goodies with the Gypsy. Not even mats/mud flaps etc..

Thats a pretty good price.

@khan.. did you get yours new or was it used ? And how much did you pay for it ?

After seeing all these gypsy pics, I'm really really really missing my king...

If i didn't have parking space issues, i would have never sold her... i'll try to find old pics to post here...

Anyone wants to sell one at a decent price in bombay please let me know... I'm reconsidering buying one again...
