@Indra_slk: Hey really nice machine there. How long did you wait for it. And how much did it cost you on-road.

My 1997 Gypsy King. I sold it in 2003, which i regret now. It was a hard top model converted to run on LPG. It was an excellent vehicle very reliable and trouble free.

I had taken it many offroad adventures into forests.

As of now I am happy with the LTX's but the only problem is they touch on the sides while off roading (Going through big pits and stuff)

Most probably i would want to raise the suspension.

Hey Indra, Try stiffening your suspensions a little, (typically done by adding extra leaves to your existing springs). This will raise your vehicle a little too.
This will save your tyres though you will have to compromise on drive comfort.

A 4X4 is reborn

Finally after a lot of procrastination my Gypsy is once again a 4X4!!!
Met up with Dwarak sir today and decided to "just do it", so bought the bolts on the way back, spent about 15 minutes under the Gypsy and voila its a 4X4 once again!!

I think my Gypsy likes it too, he is definetely lighter on his "feet" and his unbriddled happiness is coming out in the drive!!

Now to twiddle my thumbs and wait for the next OTR ... hope its soon.

Let me start the thread with permission of mods.

Stay in Bangalore and I own 1995 wide track MG 410 gypsy , hard body, modified by Dilip Chhabria. I have travelled on highways for over 70,000 kms and have engaged in hardcore off roading.

I have recorded 16 hrs journey from Mumbai to Bangalore

Dwarak
Hi Dwarka I had a Gypsy 1988 model in mumbai brought brand new from Resham Motors, those days hard tops were not built by Maruti so all GYPSY crazy guys who wanted hard top had to take it to a bus/truck body builders in Vasai known as Nicholas Garage they used to do all sort of things on your beloved Gypsy right from Hammering, cutting by gas and chisell etc All the welding work was below standard as compared to today, they used to use all rusted sheet metal for the body work all this they used to cover up in puttty being used in abundance before weired patteren painting with stripes we find on tourist buses. When I got my Gypsy back from them I could see electric welding burn marks on the windsheild. They gave choice in two to three different shapes to choose from and imagine I paid around 35000/- in those days for that shoddy job but there was no choice. After that I made various trips to vasai for leaking roof, sliding glasses notworking, rear door not alighned with big rear glass, rattling of seats etc, in the end I got fed up and sold the Gypsy in 1996 for a paltry sum of 90000/-. It was very difficult to get buyer for the Gypsy every one pointed out that the body is a Nicholas one it may be rusted at variouse places not seen. At last it was purchased by a young college student and he told me that first thing he will do after delivery will be get rid of that BODY.
