Coincidentally I ve done exactly the same today at my house. All morning. Lopped off most of the excess branches and let in some light allowing the trees to re-grow. At the same time avoid potential hazards of branches falling in this time of rain and high winds.

But I didnt use my Gypsy to cart away the remains. There are lots of construction folks nearby and they are grateful for a good supply of cooking fuel in the medium term.

If you actually bought a Gypsy solely for the purpose you outlined, Im amazed. Because Id have lent you mine anytime for such utility focussed work!

Went for a trek near Pune. Took Gypsy since the last few kms to reach the base village were complete offroad. Although 4x4 was not necessary as such but it was definitely not a hatchback territory.

Nice pics, was you Gypsy parked at Shetty's Multicar Services Bus branch? I saw same coloured gypsy a few times there.

Yes. You had given me his reference . Gypsy has been there multiple times. Had sorted overheating issue which took almost a month. Then had some wiring issue due to which Gypsy was not cranking. Recently 2 weeks back had got the radiator fixed as it had leaked.

The snap in front of Mohans brings a lot of fond memories. Ooty was calm and peaceful. One of the pics looks like Avalanche. If you like driving up the hills with absolutely no traffic and the mountains in all its glory, you should try this route - Coimbatore-Attapadi-Agali-Mulli-Manjoor-Avalanche-Ooty. There is the magnificnet Indo-Canadian Kundha hydro power station on the way.

On a side note, what you said about age is absolutely true. I always wanted a Gypsy; the king in the same colour as yours (British racing green/bottle green). Sometimes, I think I should let go of the Major and get a Gypsy. The Major with its frugal DI engine is an absolute workhorse though. Can't imagine life without that here in the Nilgiris.

Thanks . This is an aftermarket softtop. The previous owner had installed it - not sure where the OEM softtop is.

However, I've replaced this with an Armoro softtop. Will have to post an update with all the mods done till date.

Are you happy with the Armoro soft Top?
My OEM factory fitted soft top is showing signs of agr and wear and tear. Sadly this OEM soft top is near impossible to source.

I'm very happy with the workmanship of the Armoro soft top.

However, there were canopy mods done by the previous installer and hence I haven't been able to get a perfect fit yet. I have undone most of the mods and I should have a perfect fit in the next couple of months (blame it on other projects).

It didn't leak during the heavy downpours of the last 3 months.

My only challenge is the pin type locking points on the rear door. The soft top is designed for a OEM fitment and I'm unable to source them. Puneeth (Essar) mentioned that these aren't available anymore.

Yes those old twist locking things arent there any more. Those press button pins which are mounted on the rear door also arent available.
It might be worth trying to get these from some of the restoration people like Auto Attitudes Noida, Vroom Vroom in Indore or Aeman in Chikmagalur. There must be some after market solution if not OEM.
In my case my soft top is showing signs of wear. So are the hoops. And the thin rod which sits atop one’s head in front. The locking points themselves are ok.

Thanks. I'll look around. Am badly stretched for time and >1 project car isn't helping anymore.

The Armoro soft top doesn't need the supporting rod above the drivers head.

I've read your apprehensions about the product but I don't think there is anything else in the market that offers a blend of

2. Quality materials
3. OEM fit
4. Super easy removal
5. Protection from the elements

Call me a Gypsy fan-boy or whatever you want.
But I am absolutely un-apologetically enamoured of the Gypsy and its iconic looks.
Every time I park my Gypsy, even to attend to some mind-numbingly ordinary, mundane task, such as visiting an ATM or petty shop, I cannot help but turn around and look at it. And whenever I am inclined, to photograph it as well.
It just looks so good.
As the Poet Keats said - ‘A thing of beauty is a joy forever’.
To me, my humble Gypsy is definitely a thing of such beauty.
