Raj
Then for family vehicle you need four doors and cargo space, for that you increase the wheel base and that reduces the breakover angle. But definately with coil spring suspension and AC it will be much comfortable.

Is this true?

Upcoming SUVs in India

While there is a brisk competition among car manufacturers to capture the auto market in India by rolling out eye-catching sedans and small cars, some manufacturers are also trying to get a hold on the auto market using powerful and high-performance Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs) in India. Here is listing the Upcoming SUVs that are expected to make their entry into the Indian auto market.

Maruti Suzuki Jimny

Jimny will be an entry-level sports utility vehicle from Maruti in India. Available in a 1.3-litre multi jet diesel engine abroad the Jimny is expected to have the same in India. The car will have macho exteriors and sophisticated interiors and is also expected to have modern safety facilities including ABS and airbags. With the launch date yet to be revealed, Jimny is expected to be priced between the Gypsy and the premier SUV Grand Vitara.

Expected Launch Date: October 2010
Estimated Price Tag : Rs 7 lakhs Approx

If Maruti brings the Suzuki Jimny DDiS 1.5 model, that will finish off Mahindra Thar even before it is launched. However, that may not be likely, the DDiS model is only available in LHD as of now.

I mean, the DDiS Jimny is exactly what we offroaders need. It as small as Santro, light as Gypsy, so it will fit into our offroad trails splendidly. And it can be used as family vehicle thanks to lockable cabin and comforts. Add some offroad accessories like lift-kits, sliders, skid plates & mud tyres. It will be the perfect family offroader we were waiting for ever. Even the petrol version would be acceptable in our given situation.

The Premier Rio is not a 4wd and may not compete against the THAR or Gypsy MJD.

It appears to be a no nonsense, tried and tested IDI Turbo Diesel - so if A.S.S is good, the vehicle would do well

And ill shoot myself 3 times if this gets launched this year!!

But hey this is just the perfect vehicle for an offroad family man! DDiS engine make it sweet, though i would be worried about the water proofing the engine would have got.

i went to maruti brand centre at vasant kunj enquiring about the gypsy. i was told that gypsy would be converted to BSIV. in fact they were awaiting new brochures for gypsy anytime. The green jimny picture that we see above was there too. Also was kazashi. but the cars that have not been launched were locked and with dark windows, so i could not peep in. and i was not allowed to photograph.

But a white soft top gypsy was a treat
