Point well taken GS and Imran,

i have booked the yokogeo 215/75 R15 today, will get it on tuesday morning.

Also got a Skoda sounding horn fitted with a cutout and a switch to toggle between stock horn and the new one as the new one is very loud for city use.

Important addition, fitted a Xenos Gear Lock which also has some warranty.
The installation took 3 hours as the guy was doing it fo the 1st time in a gyp.
3 holes drilled on the sidewall near the gear lever on the drivers side.
The 3 screws are then tightened from the underside and the head gets detached after tightening to prevent anyone to unscrew it.
Gear lever will be in reverse when the lock is applied.
3 keys supplied for the lock.

I'll post the snaps tomorrow.

Pricing
Yoko - 4550
buyback old tyres- 700
some air leakage pin for tubeless tyres - 80
horn + cutout + switch = 600

Work done at Planet Accesories, SV Road near Goregaon Flyover.

GS & Imran - I shall provide you the contact number tom. The gearlock guy will come to your place and fit it if you want it done that way.

how much for the gear lock?

I suggest get a military switch also fitted in the glove box. It's basically a battery cut off switch. Very important.

Gear lock is 1500 including the fitting charges.

But please be present to supervise the work as lot of Hammer and Drill will be used.

022-28778447 and 022-28789477. These are the contact numbers.

Vicky Chowdhry is one of the owners. Tell him about the white gypsy, he'll come to know and ask him to call the same guy who did it for me as mine was the first gypsy and he has done a decent job. So it wouldnt be an issue for your vehicles.

help required on ride improvements

Gurus,

Need help on the suspensions.

The tyre change has not made any considerable difference to the ride quality.

I wanted to improve the suspension setup. CFLs is one option i am considering, apart from that if all 4shocks are changed to gas filled monroe or gabriel, will it improve the ride and smoothen it.

Now whenever the gypsy goes over a pothole or a uneven surface bump, the front hits the bump in a very hard way.

since this is my only vehicle, i want to smoothen the ride as much as possible as my dad sits in the passenger seat very often (thats a good sign) but he gets a terrible pain in the back and due to this i have to drive it too slowly everywhere (the roads are uneven at most places in bombay)

Gurus,

Please help if the above mentioned will resolve the issue to a greater extent as i am not sure whether the CFLs and Gas Filled Shocks can go hand in hand.

Yup CFL and better shocks would help to an extent, if you are ok try for after market ones which offer progressive damping (shockers). Should help a lil but but dont expect car like ride, Gypsy is a Gypsy afterall.

@Desmo, its almost impossible to expect a smooth ride quality from a gypsy...it has worse ride quality than even a jeep (MWB). And the situation for the backseat passengers are going to be even worse! Apart from better shocks, go for good quality seats (if you havent already done that). Not those recaro replica type, but something which is actually comfortable. The gypsy veterans can further comment on the CFL and stuffs.

Dude if you want ride quality:

1. Indigo Manza seats
2. CFLs in the rear
3. Koni shocks all around
4. 24 PSI on all 4 tires for city use

Thats about as much as you can do :(

I tend to think about it this way - the car can take a beating and come out unscathed. I can't say the same thing about my Ford Ikon which is now squeaking and creaking after being subjected to 1 year of Mumbai's lunar surface.

Any idea on the expenses involved for the 1st 3? Also, has any one changed the rear seat configuration to a single car like bench facing the front? Will it need a lot of change to the gypsy to allow getting in & out of the vehicle from the rear?

Guru/Raj - Do you folks know someone who has CFLs & Koni fitted? If possible drive a vehicle fitted with these and check for yourself before spending any money.

@Jaggu,

You mentioned "after market ones which offer progressive damping (shockers)". What are these. Are these the same that i am thinking (the gabriels or monroes) or is it anything else. Appreciate your assistance.

@Nilesh,

Manza Seats - No idea for new ones and dont know whether you get secondhand
CFLs - 12000 Bucks for the rear. Front ones have not been tested.
Koni - I heard these are pretty expensive, not sure about the price.

No Idea about anyone with Koni.

CFLs are on Khan Sultans Gypsy and Rossi from Bombay. They have given a thumbs up for those.

As mentioned, it is very very difficult to get a car like ride quality in a Gypsy, BUT you can do the following:

# Get better seats. The BEST you can get (Not the el-cheapo recaro replicas). This is the BEST investment you can make to keep your back in shape (and will be lot cheaper than having back treatment later on)

# Get gas shocks -- all 4. Monroe makes OE shocks for Gypsy and they should be available in your city or if you going to delhi then get them from Kashmiri gate. These are not expensive at all.
This mod will make the ride ~25-30% better than current setup

# Get CFL for rear. 100% reliable & recommended. That will make the ride a lot lot better and the rear thud/harshness will drop by ~75%

Even after all this, what will NOT get addressed is the following:

The front metal leafs making a thud noise and the harshness from front. (will be reduced by say ~50% but will not be eliminated).

This is based on my experience and other's may share different viewpoints...

Thanks Khan Bhai, if it improves the ride quality by even 25%, it would still be a win win situation. I shall try to get these done at the earliest.

But again, CFLs during OTRs are not recommended i guess. DO they tend to break due to the extreme pressure.
