How much flex is lost due to the rigid tail gate? I am sure at least a little...

Santosh,
The chassis flex, if lost should be close to negligible. As the top most area of the tub (tailgate area) would still flex by an inch or two even without the open-able tail gate as the tub flexes and twists along with the chassis.

Jaggu,
That gate less design, I have incorporated from Ford. That is the only way to beat the noise and rattle in the tail gate, which crops up in no time, especially after OTR's.

Reenforcement within and hinge plates.

The bonnet now nearly finished and windshield in place gives some shape to it. Seat is not fixed, just placed. The two black (windshield and grille) are the only surviving parts from the original 340, internal, external and mechanical.

The widened and shortened front mudguards, in proportion.

^^ On a stock Chassis, manufacturer provided holes are for a reason. If possible, leave them as it is.

Yes your honour Mr.Manufacturer!! We will leave them as it is.

Jokes apart when I saw Jaggu's comment I had the same feeling/answer as you Spikey.!

Its so good to have someone from the manufacturer's side in any automotive forum. Thanks Spike for all your contribution to this forum.

Sorry Fazal sir for hijacking your thread. Your pup is progressing well. And I am learning many things from you.

Re: CJ3B, 'The Dog 2' or 'The Pup': Should I ??

^^: The holes in the chassis aid in:

1. Draining water which invariably enters in a jeep
2. Draining Dust and grime out after a water wash.
3. Reduce body weight
4. Improve power / torque to weight ratios
5. To add all fancy attachments for various regulating bodies

Fazal,
Just observed on the wind screen those chrome grab handles . I hope you are going to do away with those?
Read earlier you were planning on the roll cage? what kind are you planning to make it? You could integrate these handles in the cage.

salil

Are you sure??

@Jaggu, as I said earlier they are there for a purpose. Some are tooling holes, pilot holes, tool access holes, mounting holes, stress relieving holes / slots / notches etc. They can be covered up but nothing substantial will come out of it.

Spike,
Yes, thats very true.

One more thing missed, they are holes for both, RHD and LHD fittings on the chassis, depending on the country they would be exported to during WWII.

No point in covering the holes and putting the chassis to the torch. Previous chassis was drilled with holes more than acceptable limits something like "HULLO WHERE IS THE CHASSIS????", hence the change.

Dr. Amar,

Thanks.
The handles on the windshield are there since I bought the Jeep.
Planning grab handles on the roll frame like the DOG.
The Pup, I thought was a Dog, but as it grew up...realized its a cat, and is now rechristened the 'LYNX'.
Regards,

Covering up can be with rubber stoppers Not necessarily weld jobs.

@ Jaggu: They are called "Gromets"

BTW, we are talking about an antiquated design where the rules were different - It cannot be accepted in todays day and age! Hence Gromets were born [Dont shoot me - this aint from Wiki!!]

First of all its grom"m"et. Second though its the popular usage and in parts list, may not be the right technical term.

Grommet - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Quote:
A grommet is a ring inserted into a hole through thin material, such as fabric. Grommets are generally flared or collared on each side to keep them in place, and are often made of metal, plastic, or rubber. They may be used to prevent tearing or abrasion of the pierced material, to cover sharp edges of the piercing, or both. A small grommet may also be called an eyelet.
Since you always want to be 101% correct, i should clarify. This is what i meant and they are known as rubber plugs.
