I hope y(our) dreams come true! Especially now we have "our" man at the head. He just has to engage the 4x4 and move forward and we pray for that

What if M&M does a Suzuki Jimny at a lower price point? You have the diesel from Logan. See how you can make an offroader around that engine !! Should be an interesting project.

They should stick to tried and tested engines and improve on weight reduction as well as improving the driveability of these engines.

Weight reduction is not a rocket science nowadays with newer technologies and materials coming in.

NVH - balancing the engine parts / redesign using better lighter materials would be super!!

Just imagine the same 2.5 IDI Bolero block to be a 2.5 CRDe all aluminium engine.

I guess they already have a 2.5 NEF engine doing duty in the storm / thar. But the engine is HEAVY man, HEAVY..

Focus needs to be on power / weight AND torque / weight!!

The Logan with people and luggage seems to pull reasonably well. Perhaps the experts here can throw light on its torque curve and whether it can be mated to the right gearbox to make it useable for offroad applications. The scorpio units as you rightly mention seem too heavy for a small offroader

Hi Spike, I'm sure there are a lot of options. There are write ups that Nissan buys the A Star from Maruti, make a few cosmetic changes and sell the same car under their brand.

The latest was that VW now wants to sell the new Wagon R, Ritz and the Estilo with cosmetic changes under their brand.

M&M is sure an enterprising automoble company that could set up a manufacturing plant/assembly line to build the 'Jimny beater' or sure can go the Nissan/VW way to sell the Jimny with some/many cosmetic changes and sell it under their flagship.

Just a thought!

Yikes!

@headers, an all aluminium diesel engine will sure be good, however is a challenge due to the high compression ratios of the diesel engine. This will push the manufacturing costs up if used.

@BT, this comparison is great and sure shows that the Swift Dzire's engine is the best of the lot. I also believe that a similar engine is used on the Jimny DDIS.

The 1.3 MJD is an all aluminium block. The 1.5CRDi of the accent was an aluminium block.

It used to be expensive..but not nowadays!

The Torque RPM for the Tata 1.4 dicor engine is partially correct. It has a flat 140Nm from 1800 to 3000 rpm. In real world driving situation, the Indica Dicor has much better responses than the Fiat 1.3 mjd in the Swift/dezire. The Tata 1.4 dicor could be a good engine for offroad conditions as it has good torque at low rpm, unlike the Fiat engine which feels lumpy below 2000 rpm.

Nice Lollypop!

But please dont start the new thread before homologation process & other painful govt. formalities.
The eternal wait is unbearable. Cant resist it.
