We are planning pick up this low bonnet Jeep. Can somebody tell me whether this is a original low bonnet or is it a convert from a high bonnet to a low bonnet. It has a XDP engine the 4wd is not functional but the differential and stuff is there. IT has a4 speed gear box.

Any Jeep can be converted to low bonnet in Dabwali (My native place). Personally i dont like shiny alloy rims and fat tires on a low bonnet jeep.

Since its a 2wd and does not have most original bits, its as good as a dabwali made jeep. All show, no go. (Jeep on Post#1)

I am sad and confused now i am not sure what to do.

Check the RC for the year of manufacture and the makers name.If it says
disposal then it is definitely a converted job.Post a picture of the dashboard
and the rear end.

The year of make is 1962 and it does not say disposal... i will post the pictures in a bit.

Hemanth, walk away from it and search for a better jeep. Atleast you have not bought the jeep and then asking these questions.

Sadly my cousin went and finalised it today and i just came to know.

Hemanth: Is this the Old Madras Road garage?

Wow...What a good looking Jeep.

I guess your advice has paid off bro.

Is it from Sarjapur road? If all the parts are intact, connecting up wouldn't be a big issue.

@Spitfire - not is was picked up from the guy who owns it.

@Jaggu - it is not from sarjapur road but from a place close to the airport.. the guy who we picked it up stays there... yes we checked all the parts are there we need to connect it up, i am not sure if we can map it to the 4 speed gear box.. lets see what comes up.

Post more pictures have a look and comment, all comments and feed backs are welcome as we are planning to pic another.

These are pics of the Jeep

If you are not keen on knowing if this is a stock/original Low bonnet - then the Jeep looks great. If you wanted it for a 4WD experience and/or road-presence (attention grabber) - then this will exceed your expectation. Just make sure the mechanical part is working perfect. We need more pics of under-body, under-bonnet, etc.

What price you paid for this jeep? Mind sharing? I feel this is a Hyderabadi makeover. If you can ignore that point, then its a great Jeep. Looking fwd to see her in next bangy OTR.

Thanks Santhosh, now since we have bought it we cannot do much about it. I would love to know the tell tail signs if it is a convert or not, as i do not what to get caught into this trap as we are planning to get one more.

What we need to look out for and what we need to ignore...

One baby step at a time. You dont know much about jeeps, and you obviously made a mistake whilst buying this one. I suggest you get down and dirty with this one first before you hara-kiri again.

Step 1: Identify a trusted mechanic via the 4x4 circles here, make a few calls, make some friends, visit the mechanics and then drop your jeep there.

Step 2: Spend time with your jeep in the garage. Ask the mechanic every single question about every single part mechanically.

Step 3: Shrug off anyone who says its not original etc. Dont bother about it. You bought the jeep to enjoy, and thats it.

Step 4: Once the jeep is sorted mechanically and has its 4x4 in working order, bring her to the next OTR announced.

Step 5: Meet more people, talk to them, and understand what makes a Jeep.

After about 6 months of this process, you will probably be much better prepared to find the right jeep and offer the right price.

Any other short cut method, and you probably have a lot of money - so who am I to stop you - go ahead and enjoy maadi lol:
