Hi Kamal, That is a very good looking Discovery,
1-the wheels are original steel discovery wheels
2-the body line looks quite straight cant tell about the paint work from photos
3-it looks like a 300tdi a very fine engine though I like the 200tdi
4-Extemely capable offroader and can be used as a working vehicle too.

It could also be banged up disco spruced up in Desi garage or could be an immaculate Landy.

We can only say it seems expensive for a 15 plus year old vehicle. the 200/300tdi are being discarded and sold off cheap elsewhere in the world.

check here.

I went yesterday to check he car out. The following are my observations :

The exteriors look clean. Since i am not a landy expert , cannot say whether it has been re-painted or with original paint.

Badly maintained interiors. The interiors do not match with that of other 1995 LR discos seen on the internet.

Took a test drive but felt as if i was driving a badly maintained truck ! Not sure what was wrong.

I have also taken some pictures of the car and i am posting the same.

I have also noted the VIN number and will check the same on the web to verify the year of manufacture of the car.

Lr experts - request your comments on the same.

Two things i notice from the VIN decode :

1) The model shows as 'range rover classic' !?
2) The colour code 456 ( not visible in the VIN decode picture ) corresponds to 'alpine white' as per the land rover colour code list

Where did you check the vin? can you pass the vin to me I will check with the Disco Registry that some of my friends have access to.
If the VIN dosent match the model, I would stay away from it and so should you.
As I said these days in India used Land Rovers are being overpriced.

Not really its way to old to be priced at 6 lakh, it is no special preped edition but a bog standard disco. As 4x4er has said LR are overpriced in India and this is a prime example.

Dear Friends, Thanks all of you for your replies. I feel something is wrong with this car and will stay away from it. After a lot of thought i have decided that i will go for a used Tucson or a Safari GX/VX 4x4. Do let me know if you come across any of these for sale in Delhi.

Pardon my ignorance
but does the Tuscon have a low range or a reduction gear in it.

Also as you are in the market for a used 4x4 did you consider the Suzuki GV?
It has all the goodies that an enthusiast would like to have
All time 4WD
Central diff locks
ABS/ Air bags
Disc brakes on all 4 wheels
Maruti after sales
High low ratio
And available at a really attractive prices 7-9 lacs range!!

The LR did not appeal to me as a "genuine" vehicle at all. The pathetic stickering on the bonnet gave the game away. I tmay have been nice at some point of time, but seemed like a juggad kind of LR to me as in the pictures.

Good you chose to stay away. GV would be a good buy. There is one in the classifieds. Check that out. It seems good. Or else try hard & find a nice Tuscon. It has a brilliant drive.

Cheers
