I never thought that an Indian company to which my family and I have been loyal to over the years would make me say this- I envy you guys in SA, it must feel great to enjoy an Indian vehicle to the fullest while my Indian brothers and I (in India) only post about it on the forum.

@Mahindra: Thank you, Mahindra!

@Wild_card: Great pictures, Wild_Card sir. The black Thar is looking HOT!

I`ve also removed the exhaust, please check the attached pic - the exhaust is coming out just in front of the right rear wheel
Sorry my bad - could not make out any difference in the first glance.

The Stock exhaust from what I saw of the Thar did look like it would take a beating from some average offroading. This Silencer mod does look very offroad friendly. Nice job.

While we in India still have no sign of Thar on the horizon, the people at SA enjoying it.

Mahindra Thar - Page 7 - SA 4x4 Community Forum - The only forum for the offroad and 4x4 enthusiast

There too seems to have problem with procuring hard top and people are complaining. You can see few hardtop version, I believe it is Italian.

Today i Tded the scorpio along with my friend and at that time i asked the mahindra rep about the THAR.

He didnt know a hint about what thar was and said that it would not be launched anytime in 2010 .he was confident bec it seems mahindra would let them know well in advance if it is getting launched.

So thats was a BAD news !

Remember the old song,"The sound of silence."

Aye have been hearing the deathly silence for a while. Either it's very close to launch or its been postponed. Dealers still have no clue.

For all those wanting Thar with an aftermarket Hard Top, 4x4Addict has a HT on his MM540 (presumably made locally in India) that looks better than the Italian dealer fitment:

since we are now talking about HT for THAR, how much would it cost to get it made locally, just like 4x4 addict got it made for his jeep?

With a wee bit of exposure to working with FRP, I would estimate material costs to be in the region of 3k-4k. Adding labour, finishing and fittings (glass windows, beading, sealant and harnesses) to the final product would probably entail 6k-7k price tag. If one doesnt go DIY, the I suppose a similar off the shelf product can easily be marketed for 12k-15k minimum depending on the finish.
