Compare this with the white Thar and you get ideas

Mahindra Thar and the Drool Quotient !!-img_2198r.jpg

Notice how the windscreen is angled back and also the band of metal below the screen is shorter on the Wrangler giving it a more "aired" look

The fairly upright screen gives the Thar a "tall boy" look as opposed to the sportier stance. For its next iteration or even an owner's mod the screen definitely can be worked on for a more contemporary appeal.

@ Fazal, true that's a whole world for the Thar, accessories. Obviously the old side install can find new positions on the car ie the roof

Deepak,
By the way this was the 540 which was turned into a 550 with an XD3P and 6 speed Isusu gearbox.

I know, I inquired and they quoted around 2.5L to get this done on a Mahindra Major!

How about this:

Personally, I quite like the Headlamps protruding outward, with the grill on top - but for a change, MM guys could adopt the deep set headlights, like in the rubicons - In my opinion, that lends the vehicle a slightly more 'international' feel.

Same theme could be c/f to the indicators.

Also, I quite like the square-ish OVRMs of the last couple of rubicons - but then, that may again, be too repetitive and redundant. Perhaps circular OVRMs would suit the Thar better.
But larger, so that they are of some use

As someone else mentioned, the side step must go!

And lastly (for now), I believe the a little care should be taken, to ensure that the vehicle body doesn't look too 'wide' when mounted on stock tires.

Can anyone point to a design that has retracting side steps?

The Side steps though a help in getting in sometimes are a real pain in any silly offroad terrain. Have always thought this damn thing should be retractable, but...

Fazal, DKG, ???

Headers,

Honestly, when I find your reply missing on the Thar forums, I miss you too. Actually in the right spirit... a healthy debate is always welcome on any forum and not only affirmatives and agreements.

Keeping in mind that we can and should point out deficiencies or positive sides, both sides of the coin. Yet at the same time not to be very judgmental in giving a red or green to any product without a complete analysis.

Personally, I have done two reports on Thar, they are not biased and I also know the fact that here on our forum, members... listen, read and remember every word and line. If my report goes wrong from the actual product, tomorrow it will be quoted and pointed out.
Such is my conviction regarding the Thar.

Be there as always.

Regards,

Remove the boxy front indicator lamps and instead get one integrated into the front wheel arch. These are the same M&M fix on CLs and CJs. Common.., Thar deserves a better integrated indicators. I feel half the problem will be solved as far as front look is concerned.

There's phenomenal talent in India. You just have to visit Bahadurpura here in Hyderabad to see master craftsmen make entire Jeep bodies and only a trained eye can spot the difference. If it weren't for the fact that they make things to a cost (Rs 35000 for a complete Jeep body) you could actually do some wild designs that would look like a factory finished product.

This one is really amazing in its closeness to the Rubicon, amazing

If we can have the THAR looking like this then nothing like it.

But otherwise I want my THAR to look like the ARMY NGCS MM550 in Olive Green with smaller foot steps, black out lights et al.

Absolutely and the lift up type.

As for modifying it, main purpose for us will be for extreme touring and so the function will define the form, may be its not that eye catching but this is the way max space can be taken out on a SWB.

Thus, something like this will be done - talked with a bus body fabricator over here and - he was absolutely excited to do something different!

But all these drool funda is based upon that the base model is at 5.5 something. One has to have at least some funds left to modify it and plus do touring - there's no point in having drool mal sitting in your garage and just polishing it on the weekends.
