Hope Suzuki-Maruti are serious this time

As far as I remember Suzuki-Maruti had show cased Jimny few years back in Bangalore and had plans to Launch in 4-5Lakh range, but not sure what stopped them from doing so. Hope they are serious with their decision this time, now that the market has matured too.

Attaching the picture of Jimny chasis that I had found on net sometime back.

Yup I'd pay up to 7L on the road for this. My Gypsy ended up costing me that much with AC, Seats, stereo and all that nonsense. This looks better, will leak a lot less and it should have the same levels of toughness, reliability and off-road ability.

Not a lot but it is annoying to constantly have to mop up the passenger footwell after a heavy shower. There are no leaks in the rear cabin. Whatever you do - make sure you guys sort this out on the Thar.

Reading some Jimny ownership reports and watching videos on Youtube - looks promising! Much shorter rear overhang than the Gypsy. Fully sealed cabin, wide entry doors, sealed gas-tank-cap, relatively modern dashboard and interiors.

I love it!

With the correct price and a diesel option, the Jimny has the arsenal to beat the Thar with its better greenhouse, fit and finish and Maruti ***. Even with a petrol, it will appeal to people who do not buy the Gypsy for its hard ride and a poorly executed hard top version.

Well I don't think its going to hit the market as the market size is going to very small.

And oh yes, it can never compete with a JEEP!

i know that she can be transformed
but in her stock form as an offroader id definitely go in for the thar if i had to choose
but lots of options available for the jimmy to soup her up

and her only competion as of now is the:
maruti jimmy vs premiere rio

edit: guru dont expect same reliability and offroadibility as your gypsy

You are comparing apples and oranges. It is Jimny...not Gimmy. The Jimny is superbly equipped to not just match but even beat the Jeeps you find in India. Throw in LSDs up front, Locking diffs in the rear and it will truly phenomenal off-road.

In what way? This is a 2-door 4x4 with low-ratio and a petrol engine. If Mahindra does that to the Xylo they will be shutting down shop very soon.

It will not be a mass seller...thats for sure. I do believe that the armed forces will buy these as fast as they can make them. If they offer it with a diesel option (1.5 DDiS) then it will be FLYING off the shelves in camouflage paint schemes.

The ride in the Jimny will be hard as well but not as hard as Gypsy thanks to coil sprung solid axle.

In what way? The current Gypsy can match and even beat the Jeep when it comes to cross-country performance. Even off-road, the Gypsy doesn't give any ground to the Jeep. On what basis are you making these statements? if that were the case then why would people buy Gypsies even today?

It is silly to make such statements and not expect to get whipped for it.

My Bad I had written JEEP.

I agree that the current Gypsy in terms of reliability and on road performance beats the current set of Jeeps available in the market hands down.

But with the THAR its a different question altogether.

1.)Maruti will have to keep Jimny in the low to mid 6L range or it will compete in price with too many other vehicles.

2.)One other really nice thing about it is that you will get Maruti service and spares via Maurti modern inventory control. That is huge to me.
