Dear Ken, sorry for the delay. Pics are coming. Its easier to post pics in FB with the image uploader. For tbhp I have to resize all of them and then add one by one. Thats all.

Re: Land Rover Defender 90 "Go Beyond" - Jeep Captain

Dear All,

Its been a while I updated this thread. Reason being the restoration was progressing very slow due to various reasons.

Mechanically there is nothing much to do since its already done up in Delhi and Nagpur.

So all I am doing is mostly cosmetic works. Body levelling, little bit of Aluminium welding, fixing all the door hinges and little bit of work here and there. Then comes the painting.

Let the pic speaks now.

Shibu,

Just love your SWB Defender. A LBW being restored by Prabhu has gone through a major transformation.

Dear Fazal Sir, Thanks. Did Prabhu restored a Defend 110 or the old LWB LR Series 1 or Series 2?
I am also in the lookout for a Defender 110 now.
Cheers

Re: Land Rover Defender 90 "Go Beyond" - Jeep Captain

we used to own a v8 110 petrol land rover.

i can tell you, reliability was a major issue....not to mention the poor fuel efficiency.

Please check the rear coils & suspension linkage , she is sitting low at back side , ( may be I am wrong here , just saying it by looking at pics )

Also check for insect net on front cabin ventilators

Dear GordonGekko , Thanks for the info about your experience with LR. But I tend to disagree, atleast about this vehicle. I will explain...this defender was not driven much for almost 3 years and after I bought it,without doing much maintenance I drove it all the way ( almost non stop) from Nagpur to Kerala. Where as support vehicle for the Defender which was a Maruti Gypsy had many issues during the trip and broke down twice or thrice.

I also have a LR Discovery Series 1 which has a V8 Petrol engine and I am having major issues with Engine. So you are right about the LR's having V8 petrol engines.
But My Defender has a 2.5 L NA Diesel which is suppose to be very reliable and returns decent fuel average.

Dear Dhanush, It was getting done in Cochin. Now moved to Coimbatore for getting an External Roll Cage and some other body armour works.

Dear Fazal Sir, I thought so. Because there are hardly any Defender 110's for sale in India. :-)

Dear Sudarshan , Thanks for those tips. I think you are right. She is sitting low at the back which I did not notice until you mentioned. Let me verify that and I will get the coils springs replaced if required. Same with Insect net on cabin ventillators. I will get both sorted out.
Raju bhai, You have eagle eyes I must say.

Good to see the LR finally making some progress again after a long break. Just wanted to ask you, can you give details of the kind of troubles the gypsy faced during your long trip from nagpur to Kerala? and also can you give details of your gypsy, model yr, odo reading, where it was purchased( new, used, ex-army).

I Being a big fan of the gypsy, would love to know from ppl with 1st hand experience about how it performs as a long distance mile muncher .

Dear amrisharm, ,Thanks bro. Well regarding my Gypsy you can find a separate thread about it .See it below.

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/4x4-ve...p-captain.html

Regarding the breakdowns, I was just giving comparison between LR and Gypsy and not exactly saying Gypsy is prone to breakdown or anything. The breakdowns were minor & was rectified soon.

I have travelled all over India in that same Gypsy through 18 states. Went from Delhi to Kerala/ Cochin twice and I took the same Gypsy to Leh Last year.

The same Gypsy has done three Desert Storm Rallies 2009, 2010 & 2011 as Marshal. I have three more Gypsies in my collection and in total I had 8 Gypsies in last 16 years and all variants including a diesel one.

During my trip to Leh from Delhi. The same Gypsy performed superbly well. We did even not experience a flat tyre. In short If you prepare it well any Gypsy can travel across countries. The one I am talking about is a 14 year old King carb model. Hope you understand what I am saying. :-)

Coming back to My Land Rover Defender. Its out of the body shop and see pics below.

Will be sending to the fabrication shop for the following
  • External Roll Cage
  • Roof Rack
  • Front bumper with Winch mount bracket
  • Skid Plates

Cheers
