a very well executed job and the 550 turns out to be a good and mean looking JEEP.

i would call it a RoadWarrior rather than calling it a RoadDOG!

a very rarely seen> a very attractive rear (and a jeep deserves an attractive rear as its a 'She')!

Congrats!!

Sree, I knew about this Jeep build for long time. Yesterday I saw this pics on Jeep thrills gallery and today its here. Congrats to Jeep George for Road Dog and thanks Sree for posting. .

Finally I get to see a M&M with coil springs on front and rear which is a dream for me too. Infact just 2 days back I was talking to Raj Kapoor @ Perfomance Auto, Noida about converting my MM550XD to coil springs. Probably many of you know he has done a similar conversion on a Gypsy last year for an NIOC member/Jeeper Arjun.

Hope M&M esp. Spike & Behram sir is watching. Coil spring on front and rear axles!! Thats what I want to see on Thar soon, atleast as an upgrade.

I like almost everything about this Jeep, except the front grille. A Jeep for me should be a seven slotter!! Dont know how me missed it or was it a design limitation because of the new front grille design.

My rating is 9.5 out of 10!!

Excellent job George. Now we want to see some action pics. Please bring your Road Dog to Wynad MGE in September. Its not very far for you. right?

JC

Note from the Team-BHP Support Team: Please avoid quoting an entire large post. It inconveniences our small screen & mobile readers.

Thanks.

Awesome looking jeep.

Beautiful looking rare. Loved the alloys and interior pics.

Can you post some more pics of the front cabin and the top.

I guess the top is detachable like the wrangler one.

Superb is an understatement for the vehicle. Thanks Sree for posting it here. JEEPGEORGE is a reservoir of information on Jeeps and i am sure things done in his jeep are mechanically more than perfect. The jeep looks really attractive and appears to be mechanically super solid from the list of modifications done. And i haven't seen much of successful Jeep project with coil spring suspension! By the way i think the custom made front and rear bumpers are missing from the list and also the Jeep deserves a better name than ROADDOG

What exactly are #1 & #3? Are the drag link and tie rods custom fabricated?

Any picture of the same?

Kandisa,

Here are the answers for you.

He will send more photos as asked by kandisa in regards to rear seat.

Normally in JEEPs when you hit a bump hard and the suspension travels up the steering will slightly turn to one side. This is known as Bump steer. In this JEEP there is no Bump steer due to the steering Geometry he has done.

The drag link is custom made and the Tie - rod is modified. Both are larger in diameter.

Thanks

Hi Sree,

The spare tyre is not mounted on the rare door, how is supported on the side. I guess so.

Also winch is placement area, will be mounted in the front gap between the bumper and grill.

Can you also share more details about time spent by your friend in making this beautiful machine. Approx cost will be a added benefit.

Also when is the engine change planned?

STEERING:
• Optimized steering geometry with Zero Bump –steer.

What has been done? Optimizing steering geometry is a very intricate process would like to learn a thing or two.

• Heavy duty Drag link and Tie- rod.

Which type? Army?

SUSPENSION:

• FRONT: Bolero 4WD axle with 1445mm track. Radius arm and coil spring suspension with anti-roll bar.

It would be nice if you could share some WIP pics of the front end, that would make it more clear.

• Long travel suspension.

Total travel, front/rear?

BODY & CHASSIS:

• Increased wind screen rake angle for better aerodynamics.
• Mudguard frontal area reduced and angled outwards for improved aerodynamics

Frankly speaking Aerodynamic property (specially Coefficient of drag) for Jeeps is very bad, I've tested it and found it . Stock rake angle for a 550 is 15 deg, what angle does this have? Changing the rake angle and mudguard area will have very slight improvements, although very marginal it is a welcome step :-)

• Chassis reinforced to improve torsional rigidity.

What has been done?

Sree, this project really seems very interesting. I have a few queries which I've highlighted in bold above, can you get me the answers or give George ettans no. I will get in touch with him. What was the base model for this modification (sorry if I missed it somewhere). BTW never heard of GeepGeorge

Tire is fixed on a Swing out tire carrier. It is hinged on the right side and on the left side it rests on a Solid bracket mounted from chassis.

Yes, the gap between grill and bumper is for the winch. He did not fix the winch as it was expensive and he is not going to do serious off-roading with this JEEP. As of now he is planning to fit some lights in the gap.

Quote:

Cost not fully calculated. So many parts he got free of cost thanks to many friends. It took more than 3 years to build but work was not done on a continuous basis. He did the work only when he had time and workers to spare. The suspension design itself took time as it had had undergone many trial and error changes.

Quote:
Also when is the engine change planned?
The JEEP is 15 years old so has to be taken to RTO for Fitness Certificate. Engine change will complicate matters, as of now also there are some difficulty in getting the FC. Will do the change after the FC is done.

@ Spike
The total suspension travel is 240mm (Bump and rebound) with the bump stopper. The travel is limited by the length of shocks. Current travel of shocks from closed to open is 250mm.

PS: Spikey, please check your PM

Thanks

Gypsy-Boy, I spoke to Rohan aka JeepGeorge today morning to congratulate him on the Jeep and to invite him to attend the next MGE happening in Wynad in September. I was quite disappointed to hear when he said he has no plans to take her offroad ever. . But he has agreed that he will try to come for MGE Waynad just to meet everyone.
