Re: I found The Hulk - WILLYS CJ3B

Hi Shubz. Looks like your jeep is in good hands. Nice WIP ics too. When you are at it why don't you click a few snaps of the garage and the ole' man himself? The info you provide will surely help us all. Any jeeper knows that it is equally difficult to find a good mechanic as an authentic vintage Jeep!!

Re: I found The Hulk - WILLYS CJ3B

A query for the Jeep guru's.

In the pic attached, the 6 bolts jutting out, is kinda loose. As in it shakes when shaken with bare hands, is it cos it is dismantled?

small tip about gopal - if he drives your vehicle that means he is satisfied and he has done a good job.

Re: I found The Hulk - WILLYS CJ3B

So that means the gear top assembly is done Good so that means in a week vehicle would be out. How about the shroud is it done? Right now since my vehicle is there, you can use it for any reference etc.

@sidhu: apparently he drove my vehicle 2-3 times but was not satisfied also.

Re: I found The Hulk - WILLYS CJ3B

hey Siddu -good to see you on. hope you remember meeting me at Pushpa?

@Jaggu - I hope he will finish it in a weeks time. So far he hasn't shown any concern as far as non-availability of parts is concerned. He is happy that the Jeep is intact and does not have too many broken parts.

Shroud is complete - matter of fixing it. then other little stuff like - starter motor checking/fixing. Tail gate fixing etc.

Your jeep indeed is a good reference. He is bringing my Jeep to the other bay where your jeep was earlier.

He hasn't driven my Jeep. Probably his process is - Have Babu drive with the Jeep owner on a test drive and assess the situation. I will know if he would drive my Jeep or not, once it is done up.

Jaggu - Hope to see you at Gopals over the weekend.

Regards,
Shub

Re: I found The Hulk - WILLYS CJ3B

Not sure if anybody even visits my page Nevertheless - GB is mounted and the engine was started.

There seems to be a slight sound of the gudgeon pin and also it was noticed that the "main bearing" had a little leak. After running the engine for a few mins, a couple of oil drops were noticed on the floor.

So - is replacing the the seal a good option? I believe there are rubber seals which are semi circled in shape and Gopal showed asbestos based seals used for 540/550. Would that work?

Really appreciate inputs/help from the gurus.

Thanks,
Shubz

PS: Jaggu, If you are coming over to Gopals over the weekend - You can check for the same.

Re: I found The Hulk - WILLYS CJ3B

Hey am coming tomorrow. Will check in person and meet up if you are there. About oil seals of hurricane i don't have any info right now. But is the leak major? and did you drive the vehicle?

If i were you, i would save up and stock up on parts required for engine overhaul and do a complete overhaul. This is the reason why i have not touched the engine so far, only tuned it and gonna run it till i get some $$$. Once you open the engine sometimes you can really land up with big bills, that was my worry.

Re: I found The Hulk - WILLYS CJ3B

Jaggu - Ran the engine for a few min's and a couple of drops of oil was seen on the floor. I hope he would not have opened it up by morning. When we are there you can take a look and advise accordingly.

Re: I found The Hulk - WILLYS CJ3B

You want me to advice him, wanna get me killed or what? Just kidding, yes we can discuss and decide along with him. If its a minor job, you should otherwise just leave it like that. Talking without seeing or having details of the issue.

You know what, jeep's leave their mark everywhere just like the enfield bullets

Re: I found The Hulk - WILLYS CJ3B

So the engine is now dismantled to the last bit, in a way good that it is being done. There are many parts which were kind of at the end of life and would have needed attention sooner or later. Only down side is getting these parts, can be time consuming and since these are for old engine people quote there own sweet price. Hope its not very costly job.

Re: I found The Hulk - WILLYS CJ3B

Thanks for posting these Jaggu. Even I am hoping it is not going to drain me of $$$'s going for this.

Nevertheless, it is already dismantled. and I also had to part with a quite a sum. Just hoping it doesn't double up.

Keeping fingers crossed!

So what all is required - The tappet grinding. Changing con rod bearing. tranny service (don't think anything's broken there). Main bearing seal from rubber seal to modified MM540 seal. Jaggu - what else you think?

Re: I found The Hulk - WILLYS CJ3B

Rings, valve seating, complete clean up, con rod and crank bearings. + Lathe and Labor charges. Then all the gaskets and oil seals.

Bore is something which old man will update later, first look it was ok and on original liner, though oversized pistons. IIRC you have one more oversize left if the piston and rings for that size are available. I also mentioned that to salvage the bore if possible to avoid a big bill.
