Thank you Dr. Ghosh. Would wait up to see the pics of your LWB! Wish you luck in the restoration.

I surely will post more pics in the coming days and not to mention updates and questions to the gurus out here.

Regards,
Shub

This should be useful info for you. Engine use 20w40 or 20w50 3.8 liters.

Nice meeting you and your Jeep last weekend.
-Hope the ideling problem is sorted out.
-Go for free wheeling Lamda its easily available.
-There was a cable hanging under forewheel joint, hope its fixed.
-Regarding Speedometer cluster, I am not sure whether 65 model had one. I got from Mangalore Scrapyard after long search and got it fixed from Shivajinagar.
- For now please fix your fuel guage or you need carry a scale
- Definitely will drop in this weekend for a drive

Thanks Karumbaiah sir for dropping by.

The idling issue is now sorted out. The engine now purrs like a cat! The butterfly shaft in the carb was newly put and that wasn't as free as it is supposed to be, hence jamming.

Got the muffler fixed firm with shim packing.

Changed tires to NDMS 6.00 x 16.

Flushed out radiator and filled in new coolant.

Fixed 90/100 Halogen headlamps.

Now the soft top - Dear Jeepers, please let me know how much time is required to get this done. The guy who I am dealing with says I need to leave the Jeep with him for 2 days. He said he'd put the rods connecting the scissor top to the front on both sides and provide for windows on the side and rear with gauze in between. He said he'd also provide for two foldable doors. Advise please

And regarding fuel guage - I am not sure. The Jeep experts seem to be busy out here. I don't know if the current guage/tank can be fixed or if I should go for a new tank. If new tank - Availability of the same.

Scale is for Auto guys

I am also looking to get a new muffler as this one seems to be a bit leaky and makes a weird noise when the throttle is let go.

Soft top can take upto 2 days and foldaway doors a definite welcome if you plan to do rain driving.

Fuel gauge no idea about OE, but i changed the whole meter set of my jeep to new model along with the fuel float and tank. Petrol specific tank might be almost impossible to procure, but the diesel tanks are available and thats what i have in my jeep. Difference is the coating inside is different and in very long run, it might corrode inside.

Thanks Jaggu. The soft top guy (behind JC road) wants me to leave the Jeep with him for 2 days.

Cluster Meter is something that I will look around for. The current speedo is unreliable (shows running at 10 kmph even when the engine is not running)

Fuel tank - Not an immediate necessity, just that the fuel gauge needle rocks from one end (E) to the other (F) while the vehicle is in motion.

Hey Shubz,
Please do not leave your Jeep for 2 days at a place in JC Road, if you do not know that person very well.
Leave it there only if you trust this guy.
If not, stay there and get it done.
It is only my personal opinion. I've had some good and some bad experiences at JC Road.
Cheers,
Deepak

dont leave your Jeep

Shuzz dont leave your Jeep in JC road for 2 days. If you do that u can see a sibling CAC 5003 in Banashankari soon
Regarding Scissor top, mine took Half day in Ponnampet Coorg including half door. For complete soft top it took 1 day to finish the job. If its not too urgent wait for some time. Will figure out some way out.

Darn! What do you mean by sibling CAC 5002? Are they going to flick parts? I surely don't want that! He said he'd put it up in a shed of his where he normally does to do the top work. I have already paid up advance!

Hi Shubz,
One experience was with my fusion.
Had left it at a accessories guy for checking the music system (original ford one) and had gone out to have a cup of tea. I was out for maybe 45 mins.
While i was back, alloy wheel hub caps were gone. Music system was replaced with another one (same make).
2 guys were inspecting the engine bay with the hood open.
After some long arguments, i got back my music system, but never got the alloy wheel caps.
There are more such experiences, but i guess, you get an idea with this.

Like i said, if u trust this guy, leave the vehicle with him.
If not, please make yourself free for 2 days and get it done.
Once he is done for the day, drive your vehicle back home and take it again the next day.
A lot of us would be happy to give you company

Cheers,
Deepak

Whos that guy in J.C road ? i recently got my gypsys soft top done which took 3 days. After 3 days of frustration even autos soft top looks better than my gypsys. Let me know where are you getting it from as I would like to warn you to stay away from the guy who stitched for my gypsy.

And dont even think of leaving the vehicle in J.C road. Take 2-3 days of leave from office. take the vehicle to J.C road in the morning, sit whole day and drive back home in the night. Repeat the same steps for 3 days . Yes i know its frustrating but thats how it is.

Thats what I did. And the saddest part is I need to redo it all over again :(

That sure is a long time to do a roof. My 550 had its soft-top done in a day to a decent standard.

Maybe the guy does not know what he is doing if it took him 3 days.
