Dear Nikhil, I know bro, I would love have the first step as adding a three pointed star on my front grill, but I guess it requires some mods on the front panels and bonnet. Thats why I mentioned it in stage 3. But I dont know. Let me check with my tinker and see its possible now or not.

Thanks for all the pics. They are really inspirational. I have seen many AMG's Bling G-Wagen's. But was never impressed with them.

Dear Alen, Thanks mate. I have seen that video before. As fazal sir mentioned its a LWB Judo and mine is a SWB. But are capable machines, but when it comes to extreme conditions Short Wheel Base has a upper hand.

Shibu,
Yes, I heard the Army did go in for the JUDO after shortlisting it from other bidders like LR's and Toyota's.

Dear Karumbaiah, Good to hear from you. Did you go into forest with your CJ3B? Will be posting more updates soon. I am glad that this thread is shedding more light on this amazing machine which went unnoticed due to lack of marketing or awareness from the vendor.

Cheers
Shibu

Hi ,

Firstly let me congratulate you on your decision on buying the Trax.

I had a Tempo Trax Judo (not 4x4) and drove it for 7 years , in which I clocked over 100,000 and took it over all types of terrains. Even though it didnt have a 4x4 it didnt give me any trouble,

The German engine is a really beauty though it badly needed a 5th gear or atleast a tweak to the existing gear ratios. The top speed on the speedo was 140 i think and i had easily taken it to 120 on NH1.

I really wish that Force/ Firodias would have put more marketing and design work into this beast as it could out shine the sumos etc very easily.

Enjoy this beast !!

cheers

Kundan

Dear Kundan
, Thanks for sharing your experience. Gives me more and more confidence in decision to buy this and my plans to convert to a long distance cruiser and a formidable offroader.

I added a 5th Gear on my TRAX... check out the update below.

Dear spawnofsatan, Thank you. BTW this is not a Gurkha, this is the predecessor or Gurkha and Judo and its called simply "Trax 4x4"

Dear All,
Just a quick update. My G Wagen is getting ready soon with new Engine and GB installed and few other rebuilds or mods.

Update from last 2 week.
While exploring possibilities if rebuilding the engine, I found the cost is going to be in the range of 30K to rebuild. So I started looking at options of getting another engine which can run for another few 1000's of km or a year or so without a rebuild. I heard good condition OM 616 engines are available in the range of 20K.
After few days of extensive hunting through all sources, I got a call a from my friend Mathews who is helping me to get this baby done saying, Shibu, there is a good condition Force DI engine + 5 Speed GB available for cheap.Wow! This was the news I was waiting for!! I immediately asked Mathews to confirm and arrange to pick it up.

So after few days of wait we got the Engine which was in extremely good condition, (atleast by external looks) without any oil leaks or damage and a 5 speed GB. VOILA!

Guys, though I decided to for a Engine + GB swap, I am planning to keep the original OM616 engine + 4 Speed GB with me and rebuild it when I have time and enough $$$.

Now let the pic speaks.

Old Engine + GB is out

New Engine is plonked and secured.

The Engine swap was very smooth and straight forward except one minor issue with the silencer pipe mouth not matching with the new engine's Exhaust manifold which was sorted out.

Then we encountered an issue with the Gear Box installation.

Look at the pic below. The new 5 speed GB is longer than the older 4 speed GB and the prop shaft is hitting the divorced Transfer Case.

To be continued.....

Hi Shibu,
So this is the one you were carrying in your LR via Hyderabad?
Good things happen to good people, I believe. You are lucky to have found this in a good condition and to top it all a 5 speed.
Now, how are your going to over come additional length of the 5 speed GB?
Wish you the best with your another build.
