Lag

Hi Santosh,

The Turbo Lag was evident in the 4 Speed Gear Boxes, and also depends on the Diff-Ratio and Tyre Diameter.

There will be a Lag, a slightly Lower Gearing helps in overcoming that.

In the KMT90 the First Gear is 3.986:1

In the NGT520 it is 4.12:1

However, I have not found the Turbo-Lag to cause any dis-advantage off-road.

I'm not too fond of tinkering with engines and prefer to use them as the Manufacturer made them, too many things to go wrong and too expensive to fix.

Regards,

Arka

Great video, really made my day.

Not efficient enough for the Metros.

Also Arka, is 51" Vs 57" axles really that much of a deal breaker?
Apart from turning radius and looks - benefits?

Hi Iron Wolf,

The Lack of 57" OKBJ and 53" FFRA is absolutely a Deal Breaker.

How many things do you want to modify in a Brand New vehicle.

Advantages of Wider Track

1) Turning Radius Drastically.
2) Better Stability
3) Slightly Improved Axle Rating/Payload
4) The Usual Advantages of FFRA. (53")
5) Better Articulation
6) Wider Track protects the body from getting damaged in Trail-Use

For some of us the Thar MDI is a Down Grade, rather than an Upgrade.

Regards,

Arka

This is not OT.
The first three lines are very much a reality.

Hi Arka,

I wanted to understand what other benefits. Thanks.
Point 5 makes sense. Point 6 is just an additional excuse

But I agree 51" over 57" makes no sense. Is it that all those in rural areas have not bought the the MM Pickup series just cause the track was bigger?

I guess both the 57" OKBJ and 53" FFRA were not considered for the Thar MDi due to costing.
The same reason the Thar CRDe is not going to come with MDL.

re: Mahindra Thar MDi Thread (more pics at page 24)

I'm speculating on the reactions on this thread, but if an independant builder made vehicles to the specs as suggested by the majority on here, from scratch....how much would one shell out - inclusive of donor vehicle?

Reason is, I think Mahindra is concerned at the warranty claims or quality issues they may face with the Thar especially cause there is so much interest from the true offroading 4x4 community. They would not want to loose or dissapoint such a big fan base with negative feedbacks (maybe on long-term use? ) in the future.

I'm sure the extremities each person may put the vehicle through cannot be generalized. Could this be affecting their pricing strategy and launch dates as they have to protect the THAR image - and yet cater to potential customer demands ?

What warranty? If there is even one picture here or anywhere on the web of you and your THAR doing the stuff we ought to be doing, your warranty flyer will be as good as toilet paper.

Buy the THAR, forget about warranty.

@salil, you have the most amazing of the talents. Lightening up the otherwise staid mood on this thread. Bravo man. Your post is perhaps the most ON TOPIC post that is as close to reality as it can be. Excellent.

Hmmm, interesting. Is this true and is it allowed to have such restrictions when the vehicle is catering to such customers ?

The warranty gets null and void the moment a vehicle enters into organised racing or competitive sport of any kind. It is standard operating procedure across all companies.

Thats known MC , but what I'm saying is what happens on a 4x4 event could be the same conditions one faces in his farmland or whatever on a regular basis and he's buying the product to deal with such scenarios. So is your vehicle covered in such cases?

re: Mahindra Thar MDi Thread (more pics at page 24)

Whole 3-4 pages are going off-topic, from Hitler to Bollywood. Why is so much hype over a CJ5...

We already have 3 running threads on THAR, why was this thread not merged with the latter.

And some guys get infractions for FANBOYISM
