Re: Mahindra Thar MDi Thread (more pics at page 24)

Sorry

Let me Explain.

If a Normal (not a taxi operator) user came to a show room and saw both the Thar CRDe and MDi what will be in his mind ? or what are the main difference a sales man will try to expose ? most of the Sales guys don't know any thing about Engine,Gear box,4X4 tranfer case, BHp,Torque etc.. same thing to the Normal User also.

So my point is The sale man will explain like this

1 . No Front Disc break
2 . No PS
3 . Small track width so putting a bigger tire will touch your leaf set.
4 . You need to spent another 1L for make it look good and break good so 5L+1L = 6L

THAR CRDi = 6L in this case what will be a normal buyer's choice ?

But Taxi Operator or a Farmer will Go for MDi so its very simple way of selling Two products at the same time.

As per these two pics posted earlier it seems to be having Drums up front also. Though the pics are not that clear.. Someone to confirm please.

Major also had all Drums?

(Dear M&M: Please make a detailed spec sheet of MDI. Just like the Thar. It should contain Axle ratios & Load Capacity. Gear ratios under each gear etc.. Also please update the Mahindra.com Site for Domestic Operations. It still contains Major but no link for Thar CRde or Thar DI)

Dear all - I have carefully gone through all your posts and I am happy to see a lot of enthusiasm about both the products. This makes me happy. Thank you very much.

You have observed that we have done things differently than what a normal vehicle manufacturer does, during the product development cycle and it's subsequent life cycle, as it progresses in the field. You have liked what we have done. It has given all of us the desired result. Now that the CRDe and DI vehicles are in the showrooms, we are spending quality time, continuing to do things differently there also, to ensure that we give you what you want. This will enhance the capability of deliverables of our present processes which in any case are one of the best in the counrty today.

Therefore, yours truly, along with a certain creation, popularly known to all of you as "--V521" will be lurking somewhere in New Delhi on the 28th and in Jaipur on the 29th. Similarly, Vinod should be spotted somewhere in Bangalore on the 28th. PM us. Let's make it interesting. .

Best regards,

Behram Dhabhar

Re: Mahindra Thar MDi Thread (more pics at page 24)

Guys: All latest Mahindra vehicles including Major/Invader/Pick up etc come with Disc Brakes up front. So does the MDI mm540. The internet has pros and cons. The pro is that you can disseminate information quickly. The con is the same... when it comes to incorrect information.

@jeepster the brochure you have put up their is from the pre 2007 major when it came with the MDI3200 engine with KMT90 4-Speed gear box. Post 2007 Major/Invador comes with MDI3200TC Turbo engine, 5 Speed NGT520 Gearbox, OKBJ front axle with power disc brakes.

Guys, please take your hankies out and wipe your tears, the Thar MDI will have disc brakes in front.

Hello DB Sir,

Please list out as to what you & M&M have done differently during the development cycle.

You are the first manufacturer to ask for a wish-list after the prototype is ready, and then make it look like you are taking feed back and suggestions.

At least put a Sump/Crankcase guard on your engines.

Regards,

Arka

Re: Mahindra Thar MDi Thread (more pics at page 24)

Here is the Brochure for Thar DI.
THAR DI BROCHURE.pdf

As per it, DI can be driven over 100kmph with its 63HP engine delivering 16 kmpl FE. That's some good figures.

Adding some more pics from Thar website:

Re: Mahindra Thar MDi Thread (more pics at page 24)

@BD sir / Spike,
My bolero SLX with same DI engine goes to 115KMPH comfortably with AC and 6 people and some luggage on board comfortably then how mahindra claims only "above 100KMPH top speed" for THAR di with same engine and same gear box and much lighter body in brohure?
Aerodynamically both are bricks anyway. Am I missing something? What is the logic behind it?
Also though off topic but as guys visits both the threads at same time...what is the tested time for 0 to 60 and 0 to 100 KMPH for THAR crde. I think somewhere BD sir said that it can startle civics and city's in red light drags.

Re: Mahindra Thar MDi Thread (more pics at page 24)

Nice Brochure!
The MDi 4x4 would outsell CRDe mainly in the rural markets.

In Metros if the MDi could be registered then it would be a different story.

Also Can someone tell Mahindra dealers to get their story straight on the BSIII registeration issues. They are confident that there will be no issues in registration.

PS - Still this is going to be the best-seller
Wondering whats so bad about these axles?
Apart from 51" Track width & 3.73 Ratios, what else should be changed? Are they also DANA 44?
Whats the axle load capacity & strength?
Currently these are used in what other vehicle?
What will be the cost of Bolero units? (w.r.t Replacement to 57-53 FFA with current set of 51" at dealer level OR Made to Order?)
Same query for swapping current Dash with CRDe's Dash?

What about warranty for above swaps?
Is the chassis same as Major or same as Army NGCS?

Sorry. Many Questions (If Off Topic here, please move them to Technical section)

Anything else to be worried about in DI?
