MM540 - is it worth buying? Pics attached.

I am getting a good deal on a MM540, while i inquire about details of the engine..etc, i am posting a few pics. Please let me know if aesthetically, it looks ok.

I am not sure if this is a 4x4 or 4x2 yet which i will update tomorrow. What do i need to check before buying this jeep?

If you take a look at your third pic(side view), the jeep seems like it is bent in the middle (between windshield and bonnet)

Hey common guys why are we in the fault finding mode?

@somubj, the question if its a good buy or not depends on the price quoted well it has a decent paint job, its a 4x2, but we don't know the year, neither we know of the mechanicals, Its got gypsy wheels and decent tyres(well there is thread on these tyres but they are mud terrains).

Again is this the first jeep you saw, spending 50k on a beaten up mm540 will bring it to a better condition than this one so think twice, do you like the jeep or the wrangler decals

I've been on TBHP for 3 years now .. so won't fall for decals , in fact i was planning to get it repainted and get rid of those, if i buy this jeep.

I am getting this for ~70k which seems like an ok price, can think of a 4x4 conversion as well later.

How is the body line, any rust spots? You can get a 4x4 conversion for less than 15k, there are threads which gives you a detailed procedure. BTW are you planning offroading or is this a Jeep bug ?

BTW, for 70k the jeep looks like reasonably good deal, check the mechanicals, i have a strong feeling i have seen this one before some where.

Dear Somubj - please don't buy it, the chassis is not OK.

I second Behram Sir's suggestion, the chassis seems to be bent in the middle. I would suggest you to look for another jeep.

Dear Sabareesh - this phenomenon is known as "chassis crab", it means that the 4 wheels do not form a rectangle but a quadrilateral. By the way, how are you and how is your green CJ500D4WD working?

Best regards,

Behram Dhabhar

Not seen the jeep yet so unsure of rust etc. I had planned for some trail drive.

Thanks Behram and Sabreesh, i have decided not to buy this one. Besides the problem with the chassis that you pointed out, i didn't quite like the owners answers, he had no clue on the mfg date, color is not endorsed in the RC and FC is valid till next year .. means visiting RTO offices in Bangalore as soon as i buy this .

Just an FYI: this is a 4X2 as you pointed out, has a 2.5L Peugeot engine.

I think its better to wait some more time, after the thar launch there will be a rain of MM550s,540s and CJ3bs or may be even Classics .

Can someone give some detail on the jeep's steering wheel? I am not a jeeper anyway, Just curious to know about it as I had never seen the design before.
