I guess so, we both can wait

I dont trust DwArF with driver's, i rather truck him! And its participating, i never bothered about winning at my hobbies

So buy a vehicle which comes factory fitted with AC. Period. Believe me you can pioneer a totally new segment of OTR in AC comfort!

Cheers

A new dimension to this discussion. Is it worth waiting ?

Jimmy & Diesel Gypsy is on Mauti's target for upcoming launches.

Maruti Suzuki to launch seven models in fight to retain lead

The predominantly small car maker is looking to expand in other segments as well—such as larger sedans, utility vehicles and small sport utility vehicles (SUVs)—although it will continue to unveil more small cars, senior executives said.

“I don’t think we can sustain leadership without launching new models,” said Shinzo Nakanishi, Maruti Suzuki’s managing director and chief executive. “We will diversify into other segments. We are exploring the possibilities of bringing in Jimny—a compact SUV.”

“We are continuously reviewing product possibilities. Our end goal is to satisfy customers’ demand,” said I.V. Rao, managing executive officer at Maruti Suzuki. “We do not have a diesel version of Gypsy. There are discussions going on with Suzuki and we feel that segment (compact SUV) is growing at a rapid pace.”

re: Unreasonable dilemma! Thar Vs Gypsy! Mostly resolved Page 9.

Nice thread this is... In a way seamlessly comparing both the offroading icons (atleast for many of us here). It may not matter though but had I been in your place.. The clincher would've been Thar... given a price diff of only 1 Lac or so it is giving me:

1. Diesel Unit
2. BS IV (hassle free machine for 8-10 yrs length looking at the stringent environmental norms)
3. 100+ bhp and nearly 250 Nm torque
4. Imposing and classic stance
5. Superb mod-ability
6. M&M heritage

I am sure Thar wont be a dissappointment going ahead.. both for the heart as well as the head best of luck.

Yes this would be game changer, but confirmations are far from reality!

1) Does not matter

2) Not at all a problem, since i am not having any issue with hurricane engine even now.

3) Big YES

4) Yes

5) Not yet if you are looking at mechanical mods, but if you are talking about cosmetics then definitely yes. Once M&M launches the official accessories.

6) Hmm i have mixed feelings and opinions.

Ok good news is i had my first on the road test drive of Thar today.

Something on expected lines, its a go kart for the city. Joy of driving a brand new 4x4 is something else, last occasion was when i drove Starter's spanking new gypsy.

Its as basic as it gets and it is 7.3 (7.28 i guess) lakhs!!! OTR in BLR (Samurai i was right!). Fitting an AC is not going to be an easy task at this point of time, if we are looking at a reliable and neat job. We have to wait for M&M, they are working on it on a "war footing"

Jaggu: I checkd with the Hosur road showroom guys and they didnt have the TD vehicle yet, Is there any other dealer who has the vehicle for TD? I live in HSR layout and hence the Hosur-Madiwala dealer is closer by for me.

We test drove after the official launch here in BLR and not at the dealer. It was available for limited time at the venue.

Now you can try India garage at St Marks, maybe you will have some luck.

I hope M&M [read as BD/Spike/VN & team] have not skipped this most important deal clincher in this lifestyle vehicle..

I also hope one gets a lockable cabin for it to be a proper long distance tourer!

Hi Jaggu, just out of curiosity, where was the official launch venue and where did you test drive the Thar - On road or Off road?

Yikes

Yikes
Launch was at The Chancery Pavilion - Google Maps

I drove around, Residency road, St Marks Rd, Lavelle Rd It was 101% on road. Maybe a few road humps and potholes was the closest to offroad test drive.

re: Unreasonable dilemma! Thar Vs Gypsy! Mostly resolved Page 9.

Following this thread closely, as this is a dilemma i am also going through. plan to buy gypsy or thar after march in the next financial year. As my wife puts it, the dilemma is between what I should buy (Thar) and what I want to buy (Gypsy). And boy, its a tough one.

I would get a gypsy. The bottom line: I have far more faith in suzuki's engineering competence than in mahindra's.
