Thanks Mohan. Planning to get the bull bar chrome-plated soon. Jeep has left to get its new clothes. Party? Where's the party tonight?

Re: Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde- From Doctor to Jeeper

Hi Doc, found you here finally.
Thanks for the link on FB.
Awesome Jeep you have been building there. Looks like it's almost complete. Can't see what's missing there? You mentioned it's a trial run, what all is left to be done Doc?
Time for me to go through this thread.

Re: Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde- From Doctor to Jeeper

Doc,
Just went through all the 5 pages.
Damn exciting to read through the buying and build up process. Looks like, the symptoms you experienced are starting to surface in me
Have understood mostly what is being discussed here, but just a query.
What are Lamda free wheeling hubs for? What do they do and how do they help in Offroading?
Also, can you share the approximate cost(may be through PM) of buildup and how much you got the jeep for.

*sorry for the noob question as I have very limited basic knowledge of offroading.

Re: Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde- From Doctor to Jeeper

Hi fordmanchau,
Thanks. I can understand your position. Just go through various Jeep rebuilds on our Forum and also browse the 4x4 technical section.
Freewheeling Hubs are used to disconnect the front axles when 4wd mode is not necessary. You can see this post:
http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/4x4-te...tml#post781122
Also you can find some useful info here:
http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/4x4-te...4x4-terms.html

I too am a learner and a newbie to the 4x4 sport world. To make my jeep into a better offroader I still need a snorkel(helps in water fording), winch(helps to pull my own jeep or even others's if it is stuck in wet sand/ trenches) and many more things:-)
I purchased the Jeep for Rs.75,000
Mechanical restoration : Rs.35,000
Tinkering: Rs.10,000
Painting and upholstry: Rs.13,500
Alloy wheels and radials: Rs.18.5k and 27K
Fender ext. set: Rs. 4800
Front windshield with beading: Rs.3400
Complete electrical overhaul with wiring harness: Rs.12000
Amaron Harvest Battery: Rs.5200
Lamda Freewheeling hubs: Rs.3000
Misc: Rs. 5000
I can remember this much. Still lots more to be done. I guess this roughly totals to Rs. 2.12L.

OMG!! Doc, you sure you have not left out anything!!
Looking at 2.12L , it suddenly looks affordable to me
And, even if it's upto 3L, it looks possible in around two years considering other priorities. But, I guess the key would be to find a decent Jeep at the minimum of price.
Thanks for the links, will read through it. I wonder why I wasn't in 4X4 section before.
Do keep updating the thread regularly.

Congratz she is looking lovely! Great restoration!

Only one suggestion, try to find a better alternative to the thermocoal type insulation if you plan to use the jeep for OTR and with open top. The current set up is a rust magnet coz it will trap moisture underneath for long periods.

Given the boot , with the jeep being sooo smooth/noiseless, I convinced Doc to avoid it. Just the OE 540 rubber mat has helped dampen the under-hood, under-body noise. The next plan is to put a 2nd layer of Samu's type rubber sheet. Lets see.

Thanks Jaggu. As Santosh said we are planning to get that type of set-up. The bulbar too will go for chroming and will be used only in city not for offroading (it's for home minister:-)
Planning a snorkel, rollcage now before June blr OTR.

@SV Santosh: Thanks for posting those pics and thank you for being there for me:-) I enjoyed every moment. Also thanks to Mohan for helping me out.

@ Fazal Sir: thanks for the encouragement. Also many thanks for helping me source many items for my Jeep from Hyderabad. I still have to get a snorkel done, a winch set up, a roll cage done. Hope to do it before AKC and EXAMM. Saw your Jeep's progress in you'd thread. It's going great and hope to see it in flesh soon.

@Madhkris,

A Black 540 looks the best IMO.

Just an observation, why don't you change the orange lights under the headlights into white spotlights as right now you seem to be having two pairs of indicators.
