Team,

Hurrah! We announce a huge cause for celebration : Team-BHP is now officially a BIG-BOARD!! Today, on the 10th of August 2007, we have crossed the 5,00,000 post mark. Each internet forum that crosses this significantly huge mark is officially entered into the Big Board (The largest Message Boards and Forums on the web! ) registry.

Team-BHP is the FIRST Indian automotive community to achieve the big board status. Also, there are only 5 other Indian forums (all non-automotive) that qualify. Not only does this lead to additional recognition and responsibility, but it also marks a respectable level of establishment.

What we are extremely proud of is the impeccable manner in which Team-BHP has maintained its content quality and kept out SMS / Slang language, personal attacks, inappropriate language etc. from our forums. Team-BHP has maintained an enjoyable decorum, and has gone on to become the one-stop resource for information on any topic concerning the Indian automotive scene. Whether its absolutely honest reviews on new / used cars, up-to-the-minute news, modifications and ICE installs, motor-sports or even on what to do when you get car-sick……we have covered it all. We do hope that you have benefited from our comprehensive Team-BHP ADVICE section (Team-BHP Advice - Team-BHP) too.

In line with our motivation from the early days, Team-BHP has absolutely no funding from the automotive industry and will never do so. It goes a long way in helping us maintain our unbiased nature. This long journey has had its fair share of ups and downs; in the end, it all comes down to you : The BHPian! It’s also a time for us to think of : What next? Why not? How do we move forward?

Just wanted to pause for a moment and say a huge and sincere THANKS to the Team-BHP Support Team, the Distinguished BHPians, and each and every one of you BHPians out there. Let us take this opportunity to commit to you that we will never stop. To move forward is the only road that Team-BHP knows to high-revv on.

Thanks a ton much for all your love and support,

The Team-BHP Support Team

Team,

This was the first time that we ran an upgrade through a live board! All the previous upgrades have seen the board being turned off for about a week, but who wants to spend a day without Team-BHP, right?! Plus a lot of you helped out with pointing out errors, as well as bringing forth some great suggestions. Thanks and much appreciated.

Here is a list of what has been accomplished:

New Server

Team-BHP has moved up to a Core 2 Duo spec server with a whopping 4 GB of RAM! With this upgrade, we are now equipped to manage over 2,500 concurrent online users. Suffice to say, the response time of this community will always be quick, especially with more and more users online at the same time.

New Software versions

All the software products that we use have been upgraded to the latest available versions. Translated = Better performance, efficiency and security.

New Skins

We have added 4 new skins, making it a total of 6 colour choices for you to view Team-BHP in! You may choose different skins from the drop-down menu on the bottom left of each page, or from your User CP.

Classifieds Section

The Team-BHP Marketplace just took a huge step forward! We believe that a dedicated classifieds section will make it far easier to list, buy and sell cars. Of course, the listings are entirely free to all.

Since so many of you posted threads for iPods & computers (which were eventually deleted :D), we have accommodated this demand with a gadgets section too!

BHP Garage

The much requested “search feature” on the BHP Garage has been added. Also, a “previous” and “next” scrolling option has been incorporated, allowing you to easily surf through different photographs from a specific garage. Lastly, a picture preview will come up on the same screen if you click on the thumbnails.

There are several smaller enhancements that you will notice around the board, but too many of them to list. For instance, the multi-quote feature now allows 10 posts, "similar threads" display on the bottom left of each thread page, forum descriptions show up with each thread and so on.

A very very Happy 4th Birthday to Team-BHP! This is always an important day for us, but today is far more momentous than the last. What better time than the 14th of February, a day of love, to launch the new face of Team-BHP (Team-BHP - The Definitive Indian Car Community - Home).

The last 4 years have been a time of fantastic evolution for our community, with continuously improving content, features and support. The only one thing that has remained consistent, and shall always stay so, is our philosophy of hosting absolutely honest and unbiased information on Indian cars. We are undoubtedly the only resource on the Indian automotive scene that calls a spade a spade! From a forum of just 12 active members to what is now India’s largest automotive community, and one that burns only 100 octane posts, Team-BHP has gone on to become a way of life to each one of us. With time, the enthusiasm only grows, the focus only gets sharper and the spirit only more indomitable.

Team-BHP/Web is built around the forum, which will always be the center of this community. In fact, forum links are at the core of our new home page. The new portal offers the most crucial information in the simplest way possible; an uncluttered look is what we worked hard toward. Thus, we have intentionally avoided all the nonsense flash and jazz, instead opting for a straight-forward look where the focus is on content. And content only. For instance, have a look at the concise ownership reviews; they will tell you everything you need to know about a particular car.

Thank you for sticking it out with Team-BHP, dear BHPian. Here too is a commitment from us to intensify our efforts and consistently push the envelope. When we have the power of 20,000 BHPians, must there be any limitations? I can assure you that this is only the beginning. Make sure you buckle up, coz this is going to be one hell of a high speed drive!

We dreamt, we toiled and we achieved. I ask you just a very simple question: ARE WE REDLINING THE INDIAN CAR SCENE?

PETROL HEADS UNITE

In This Series, We Meet Unusual Groups. This week, Kamini Mathai gets talking to Team-BHP To Know Your Car Better Join This Group Of Auto Enthusiasts

How fast can that 800 of yours go? What’s a good car for city roads? Petrol, diesel or LPG? Car questions plaguing you? Answers beyond your reach? Perhaps you ought to catch up with this group of car enthusiasts.

Predominantly an online community, Team-BHP, which consists of a group of auto enthusiasts (who love to call themselves petrol heads), has a presence not only in India but in several countries around the world too. It was established in February 2004 by a group of people from various parts of India who just wanted to talk cars. The Chennai chapter got “real” in 2004 itself when about 10 members decided to meet up face-to-face. The city group, which has now grown to more than a 100, meets once or twice a month for discussions and test drives.

Online, the group has discussions on everything from car reviews and advice on tuning and owning cars to manufacturing trends and lists of problematic cars — all from the people who actually own the cars. The site, Team-BHP - The Definitive Indian Car Community - Home, now boasts of over five million annual visitors from all over the world.

Says Rush Parekh, 31, a businessman and one of the coordinators of the group: “Team-BHP is a community of, by and for Indian petrol heads. There is absolutely no funding from the automotive industry. So, whatever you find on the site is unbiased and neutral, which is why you will find no automotive ads. We talk cars here, about racing them, souping them up and more.” Membership to this club is free, he adds, and open to anyone who loves cars.

Madan Menon, 28, who owns an IT infrastructure services company, and is an active member of Team-BHP, says this forum is simply the best way to get to know your car. “Online, we usually get queries or have discussions but we make it a point to meet at least once or twice a month. We usually get permission from the Madras Motor Sports Club and meet at the Sriperumbudur race track. Sometimes it’s a pay-and-practice session; other times the team organises a “track day”. Members always bring their own cars,” says Madan, who adds that he enjoys the track sessions as he get to see how fast his Palio can go and what he can do with it. “The club does not encourage street racing or rash driving but over here on the track you can really get to go fast under safe conditions. All drivers have to wear helmets and have their seat belts on, so do the people sitting in the car with them. And not more than two people are allowed in a car at a time. This is one way to really test the capabilities of your car. Besides, you get to learn a lot about your car,” adds Madan, who is officially a Team-BHPian, a position you apparently have to earn. On the site, a newbie is someone who has less than 50 posts to his credit, a BHPian has between 50 and 1000 posts, a senior BHPian has more than 1000 posts, while the distinguished BHPians are specialists in fields such as music systems, highways, off-roading, etc.

Not all members have their own cars; some join in because they love cars and want to buy one at some point in their lives. Like Chennai member Ravi Kiran, 24, who works in the sales department of a multinational company. “I’m looking to buy a car and I find this is the best place to find out more about automobiles. The kind of people you meet here are from various walks of life and various age groups but have one common passion — cars. And you can learn a lot from them.”

A Million different ways of Thinking

A Million testaments to Truth

A Million commitments to Quality

A Million kms traveled on the road of Trust

A Million injections of fuel in our veins. Team-BHP is, after all, one in a Million!

It took us 3.5 years to cross the 5,00,000 mark and achieve the status of a Big Board last August; the sole Indian automotive community to be listed on the International Big Boards Registry. Well, our march to the million, and the next 5,00,000 posts, was completed in only the last 16 months!

We bow down to you, Dear BHPian, for your steadfast love & support to our community. I'd also like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude to the Moderator Team for their unflappable commitment and substantial contribution to Team-BHP.

I can assure you that today is only the start of a high-revvin' future. clap:

"Towering genius disdains a beaten path. It seeks regions hitherto unexplored" - Abraham Lincoln

There was a reason I switched over to this signature in the days leading up to our 5th birthday. Team-BHP was blessed with an enormous vision; a vision of treading on an honest, albeit difficult, unexplored path. Emerge successful we have, and how! The genius is Team-BHP, the genius is us...the genius is YOU. Today is not just our 5th birthday, it is also a celebration of YOU : The Indian car enthusiast. As an absolutely unbiased & passionate community on all things automotive, Team-BHP is the CHANGE. The sheer truth in our vast repository of knowledge only embodies that. We have had 5 magnificent years, well over a million posts and 38,000 loyal BHPians, but let me reassure you of this : The revolution has only just begun. We have gotten here due to your love & support, is it any surprise then that Team-BHP was born on the day of love? Let us help Team-BHP scale newer heights.

5 years back, on this exact day, we had gone live. Without meaning to sound immodest, there isn’t a doubt that Team-BHP has emerged as the finest community in India. And amongst the very best worldwide. This community has given us so much : Great friends, colossal knowledge, unbridled passion, petrolhead meets & gatherings, heightened awareness, pure joy, mega challenges....the list is endless. We have to realise that we carry a pretty heavy responsibility now. And that responsibility entails us to continuously sharpen our focus toward the evolution of this community. You have brought us here, and it is only with you that we can evolve. I ask of your support, dear BHPian, in maintaining the passion, quality, authenticity and totality of knowledge on this forum. We are crossing a significant milestone today. Let us renew our commitment to our community. Team-BHP is, after all, immensely close to our hearts.

It is simply an honour to be part of the leadership team of such an outstanding community. A warm – heartfelt – thank you for sticking it out with us.

Buckle up, we intend to keep the revvs real darn high!

You mean "Name7" in the picture above? :)

For sure Eddy! This has been discussed in the Suggestions thread. We recently got the go-ahead from Robin's family (along with basic guidelines they would like us to follow) and we plan to integrate a memorial for Robin into the portal on its next update.
