Re: 3M Car Care (HSR Layout, Bangalore)

I got 3M paint sealant (Old Car, with Exterior Restorer Advanced) - Rs.3495 with tax - and Interior Restorer - Premium - Rs.1495 with tax - for my 4.5 year old Getz. Getz is classified as a small car whereas Ritz, Swift and Punto are classified as medium cars. So, the rate is less for Getz.

I called them at 9:30 AM today and I was not confident of getting an appointment as it is a weekday. I was surprised when they told me to come as soon as possible. They did not push any of the packages. They just explained everything to me and left if for my choice. The staff is very friendly and was eager to demo their products, I had a good time with the staff and other customers there. They have Meguiar products displayed there. That is nice as I could not find it anywhere in Bangalore.

Exterior Treatment:
They have done a very good job. The hard water/ STP water stains are fully gone. As praful said, 80% of the swirl marks are gone. As expected, nothing could be done for some deep scratches. They removed the hard water marks attached to the logos and corners. The car shine is very good, much better than the 3M treatment i have been doing at hyundai ASC. the shine with paint sealant is supposed to last 1 year, let me see how it goes.

Interior Treatment:
The dash is very glossy similar to the cleaning done by the hyundai ASC, I do not like it so with the reflection on the windscreen. The fabric seats are cleaned well. The area under seat is not cleaned well, I can still see some dirt there. Otherwise, they have done a very good job.

I would recommend the place. Very professional and excellent job. I will be going there again for sure.

The best part is the lounge where I can watch them working on the car. They are also fine with customers going to the washing bay.

My car washing guy has literally abused the car with cloth and STP water in the apartment. I am going to tell him to wash the car only once a week. i need to get a micro fiber duster.

Re: 3M Car Care (HSR Layout, Bangalore)

Just a Question, is it necessary to take an appointment?? (obviously if you like waiting then no) (did I just answer my own Q myself?)

And also, are they relatively free'er on Weekdays?

Re: 3M Car Care (HSR Layout, Bangalore)

On a weekend it is best to take an appointment.
On weekdays the place is relatively freer.
They are nice chaps.

They are almost completely free on weekdays. Fridays through sundays the crowd builds up quite a bit. I usually pick some day in the middle of the week, like wednesday or thursday, apply half-day leave and go to this place. You get undivided attention because there is no other car there, plus the staff make sure the detailing job is done to perfection since there are no other cars waiting after yours.

I would avoid saturdays and sundays if I were you. They are too rushed to finish the waiting list of cars and I am not quite convinced they do their best job on weekends.

Either way, call up and take an appointment to be on the safer side. The guy who attended to my car was Pradeep, if I remember correctly.

P.S - there is an eatery right opposite this place, in case you want to pass some time and/or kill your appetite on boring weekdays

E.
Thanks man! will probably bunk half a day and get it done.

On a side note, two more silly 's coming your way.... how much time does say a simple external wash take? and do you guys see the whole cleaning process or leave for a coffee (or tea, your choice) and then come back after a while?

They do a shampoo + wash in the basement of their building. This typically takes around an hour. After the car dries up, they bring it up and start the paint sealant treatment - sanding, waxing, blah blah. After washing it takes another 3 to 3.5 hours if you opt for the full course of detailing.

EDIT : a simple wash + polish shouldn't take longer than an hour

Do you stay close by somewhere around HSR? If so, you can go home and come back later. I usually stay put there in the showroom for the entire time, no choice since I am put up at Jayanagar . They have some magazines and newspapers there, nothing else sadly. There is however an eatery opposite this place, so you can go indulge in some chaats and/or tea-coffee to pass time. Alternative boredom therapy - better install some games on your mobile before going here

Judging by the lack of entertainment facilities, I think If I am going for an external wash Ill probably stay inside my car and catch a few winks.

I stay all the way near race course road, have my office on Bannerghatta Road so Ill probably need teleportation to go back home.

But yes, I get your point, thanks again.

Well if you stay near race course road why bother to go all the way to HSR.

There are 2 more 3M detailing centres in Bangalore. One is near Ramaiah college on new BEL road and other is in UB city (Recently opened I believe)

Same setup i.e. 3M detailing centre.

Awesome. This is accessible for me and not too far from Cox Town. Wonder where they have set this up as UB City is huge. I might head there today or on the weekend.

Okay; so I just spoke to the folks at 3M India and they have given me the number for 3M Car Care in UB City. I have a 9am appointment with them tomorrow. Contact person is Mr. Vinod and he can be reached at 99 01 99 58 20.

true, but i was ideally looking for something in between my home and office. So the one at UB city sounds perfect.

Ill wait for someone(sandeep) to check it out and give a review first.

I need to get the AC cleaning for my car. Any idea where I can get the steam cleaning of the system?

Do 3m do cleaning with foam or steam?

I too was looking for this but apparently they use some sort of solution to clean the A/C.

Re: 3M Car Care (HSR Layout, Bangalore)

Good service at 3M HSR

I went there to check my underbody just now because I executed a leap over some vicious concrete slab and heard a grating scrape. Luckily no issues except a few shallow scratches on the underbody protector.

Went and got the Yeti bathed nicely using their foam bath and got its underside also sprayed clean. They vaccuumed the interiors, washed the mats, cleaned the windscreens and so on. Then they did their wax and "powershine" dressing package for the outside of the car which included a nice tyre dressing. Also bought some nice micro fibre towels for car washing and wiping.
The total damages were Rs 1500/- 550 plus tax for the car wash and interior vaccuum. 480 odd for the car wax job and tyre dressing. SOme 120 odd for each towel - I bought 4 of these. So 1500 odd!

Worth getting this done once in a quarter or so, especially if one's car service intervals are long like in my case - 1 year / 15K kms whichever comes earlier. This way the vehicle can be cleaned and kept in top condition.

The chap there clearly does not recommend any kind of underbody rust proofing etc for the Yeti. Seeing that I had done my research he did not suggest the paint sealant treatment either.
Importantly he mentioned not to wash and clean one's car more than once a week or once in ten days approx. I have been following this practice for years anyway so it is not news to me!

They are good blokes and do a good job of the cleaning overall.

To me, buying their "cut to fit" plastic woolly mats is really not worthwhile - much better to buy the KAGU 3D Mats in my opinion.

Can you please explain why only Powershine was opted for? Was it because it is a new car?

Re: 3M Car Care (HSR Layout, Bangalore)

I usually wash and wax the vehicle myself, once a week or once in ten days. Or my attendant does it and he has been trained to do the needful without scratches etc.
Yes I opted for powershine because it is a new car and just wanted to experience it for myself.
I would say that the 480 Rs is reasonable and money well spent. Car looks very clean and shiny now.
But I would not do it more than say, twice a year or so max.
Cheers
