Re: Body Repair & Painting, Glass Repair, Detailing etc. - Trend Automobiles (Bangalore)

Hi, the place is run by three brothers. Anish, Dinesh and Satish. They take their time but do a good job.

I googled it but the attached pics show a small workshop, unlike what reading posts in this thread made me feel like.

Is it the same workshop located in Garebhavipalya, near Electronic City? Also, can someone share the number of the concerned person?

I have a small dent to attend to, caused by a bike hitting the rear door.

Re: Body Repair & Painting, Glass Repair, Detailing etc. - Trend Automobiles (Bangalore)

This happened a few months back, I decided to change my Baleno RS's front grill from Gunmetal grey to Gloss black and approached Trend. Though they do only body work and repair based painting, they weren't keen at first to do a modification job. But they listened me out and agreed to carry over the work. They removed the grill and let me go with the car, and asked to collect it the next day. Work was great, they had to rub off the chrome detailing on the underside of the grill.

Re: Body Repair & Painting, Glass Repair, Detailing etc. - Trend Automobiles (Bangalore)

I had the misfortune of a having a paint scratch on a 45day old Verna, thanks to an irresponsible cabbie and Hyundai's not so great paint quality.

So what happened

Bangalore traffic happened. Despite being uber careful and maintaining safe distance between cars an idiot cab driver who did not care to keep his foot on the brake decided it was an wise idea to not bother about the car behind him which was honking to warn him of his innova rolling back. There was no way for me to get out or back up myself. Eventually the Innova rolled back enough to rest its butt on my poor cars front bumper. Given that it was a super slow roll, I expected most likely a fine line or minor scratches, but what I saw was painful paint chip. Thank you hyundai, your paint quality sucks ! I have been in so many such situations and the worst the Vento suffered was a minute scratch, nothing a rubbing compound cannot fix !

What next

The dealers wanted to charge me upwards of 6K to repaint the whole bumper. So I searched TeamBHP for recommendations on FNG that would do a quality job and Trend seemed to have the best feedback. So depsite being on the opposite side of town, I decided to drive the 45Kms to ensure the car got the best treatment

My interaction with Trend

I got to interact with Satish, who speaks all the major south-indian languages and hindi. He quoted 1800 for the job & asked me to leave the car behind and I politely declined to leave it behind. So he asked me to come back at 10AM the next day and mentioned he should be able to deliver it by evening. Come next day, I went back to trend at 11 (thanks to traffic again) and stuck around the garage the whole day. They started the preparation immediately but the car was rolled into the paint booth only at 2:30PM and it took him 30 mins to get it sprayed. By 5:30 it was evident that they wont be able to complete the final polish & finish. Being a new car I was very reluctant to leave it behind at the garage overnight. So I waited for 1 more hour and at 6:30 PM I drove the car to my cousins place which was 15 minutes and put it in the basement parking so that there is no impact due to rain. Sateesh warned me he wont be responsible if it rained on the way and it ruined the paint job. I was willing to take that risk

I took it back at 10:30 AM next morning and the detailer was already there finishing up another car. He got down to my car immediately and was annoyed with the finish. He actually yelled at the painter for doing a poor job with respect to over-spray. He ended up spending a while wet sanding it down and then polished it. The overall finish was OK.

So what is the final verdict

I will let the pictures do the talking, but personally I would rate them 7/10. Why 7, because they are not as perfect as claimed in previous posts, but to be fair to them, they definitely did an above average job for fraction of the cost that HASS would have charged me. However there are a few shortcomings.
- First there are minute pits in a few locations (I had actually pointed it to the painter once he was done and the car was still in the booth, his response was it will be taken care of during the finish).
- Second, there is a paint run in two locations but not easily visible. This typically happens due to over spray
- Third, is a small small spot where the paint hasn't stuck well resulting in minute fisheye. This typically happens due to improper base preparation or poor paint.

But none of these imperfections are visible easily. One really needs to be as obsessed as I to figure it out. Additionally the final wet sanding was not 100% perfect resulting in one small spot where the paint is still rough. The whole process had also left a lot of swirl marks on the paint. Since an detailing was on the cards, I decided not to press it any further, worried they would make things worse.

Finally I left with the car without being disappointed but definitely not happy either. The 3M detailers near my home got to working on my car yesterday and the final result is good. An average joe would never know a paint job was done. If I can split up scoring, this is how it would look like

Paint match : 9/10
Finish : 7/10
Interaction : 8/10
VFM : 7/10
Overall : 7/10

Will I recommend it to others

Personally since this was a bumper job, I was OK with them. But I will personally will not go back to them for a body paint until my car has atleast completed 3+ years. I would definitely be OK with them doing touch up jobs specially in not so visible locations and on cars that have rakes up 15K+ on the ODO. The interaction was straight forward and the final result was no worse than an authorized dealer job. But its just not perfect. I wish I knew of painters that do a factory finish like job.

The last but one picture was before the 3M job and the last one is after the 3M job

There are absolutely none. And I'm saying this from experience after trying many places like Sai colorium, Bosch, Trend, Authorised Toyota, Ford, local guys and a couple more.

None of them can get anywhere close to factory finish. It is just the way it is.

Your choice is to align your expectations accordingly. Don't expect factory finish from any one except the manufacturer.

Trend is no longer a reliable option for painting, couple of years back itself I posted pictures of their work quality. They tried to reach me through other bhpians after a year, would advise people to not waste their time. As Vid said, no one can match factory finish for painting.

Yes I had read your post on the issues you faced at Trend. Infact, it got me thinking if I should really reach out to them. But this was a bumper job, what is the worse that could happen, I can always go back to HASS or worse, replace the whole bumper. So I went ahead and took the risk with Trend despite being a new car. To be fair to them, in my case the paint match was actually good, maybe cause the got the right paint shade matching the code I had given them. Infact there was an bright shiny copper orange Baleno that had come in for a touch up job in the front and rear bumper. I did get to see the finish the next day morning and the paint match was quiet good for such a complex color. But yes, as I had mentioned in the previous post, I wont go back to them for any body paint atleast until my car sees enough miles in the next 3+ years. I may stick with HASS (or better pray I dont run into such a situation)

However what I am not satisfied is with the overall finish, the issues that I have were totally avoidable, specially since I had pointed out a couple right after the spray was done. One can argue I should have taken the car after the complete job and let it cure overnight at the garage. But none of the issues I have are a result of it. Thats the reason I am not too excited about the final finish. Only time will tell how it holds up in the long run, lets see. For now, the paint job followed by a 3M process has given me some peace.

On the thought from Vid about no paint job can be as good as factory finish, I remember reading a post from GTO on one of the other threads where he mentions folks who can do close enough job. Based on the feedback on Trend, thats the kind of expectation I went with.. perhaps it was a bit too much to ask for

I had a positive experience with Trend a month ago. Went to Trend based on a friend's recommendation and was not even aware of this thread. The car had a some scratches on the bumber and a rear door as well as a minor dent on the running board. The overall job was good and they even managed to replicate the (rubbrised) protective layer below the the running board. But then, my car is black and it is easy to do a paint match. I was promised of a two day turnaround but it took one extra day, however they kept me informed and there were no last minute surprises. The only negative was that the place is dusty and I had to get the interiors cleaned post the paint job.

Glad, you are happy with their work. I cannot go back in time to give them a second chance. The way they manually rubbed my Skoda Rapid with an emery paper to clean the painted surface is etched in my memory. I was their loyal customer till 2014 and referred many of my friends to Trend. It was up to them to keep up the trust factor, me being a customer always have mulitple options.

I had a good experience at Trend and thank Vid. The work was near perfect, ...but what I did not like was that they peeled the protective sticker off the audio unit - and there were smudge marks on interior handles etc. which had to be removed outside - by 3M, at an additional cost.

Re: Body Repair & Painting, Glass Repair, Detailing etc. - Trend Automobiles (Bangalore)

I have been to Trend twice for paintless dent removal (PDR) work. And they did a pretty good job. They charged Rs 600 to fix the fender and Rs 900 for a dent on the door. Slightly more for the latter as the door needed to be removed.

From what I saw in their shop, it is not the most clean or tidy place by any means. They do charge marginally lesser than ASC or other body repair shops. The work will be satisfactory at best. Anyone will have jitters if they have to leave their cars (especially brand new ones) overnight.

IMO their best expertise is in PDR jobs. Anything more, better go to the manufacturer.

I need to do full body denting & painting work on my Innova. It is 12 years old.

My previous attempt 4 years back backfired terribly, all five doors are a different shade of the original colour.

I would really appreciate if you can make a recommendation on a decent body shop.

Bangalore Motor Works, my regular FNG has quoted 80K but I was not very satisfied with his work on another car.

I can live with a close enough finish as long as they are the same shade.

Re: Body Repair & Painting, Glass Repair, Detailing etc. - Trend Automobiles (Bangalore)

I need help with finding a good Body repair and painting FNG for my Maruti Ritz. The bonnet and doors have gather quite a few nasty dents and scrapes over the years and need to get it all fixed and painted.

Went through a few threads, Sai Colorium seems to have gone down on their work quality. I would really appreciate if someone could guide me to a good and reliable workshop.

Thanks in advance!

You have already reached the right thread. Trend do a pretty good job with this stuff at reasonable prices. Anyone having been there recently can comment if they still maintain the same standards and same cost.

Also depends on which part of the city you reside. Trend can be very close by or very far away.

Thank you! I live in Basavangudi (South Bangalore).

It would really help if someone who has used the services of Trend Automobiles recently can give a feedback!
