Same here. Even when I have offered they refuse, both at Madhus and Tyre Professionals even when they observe that the note is a pretty big one.

I have always been sort of asked indirectly for tips at both places. And this is happening not recently but since around 2016-17 itself. Maybe you both have been lucky as I have seen many others offering and being accepted as well.

Re: Madhus Tyre Centre - Wilson Garden, Bangalore

Had received this message from a manager at Madhus last weekend - I couldn't check further on this since I was out of station. Appreciate the initiative though!

Hope some of bikers here were able to attend and provide feedback to the management on their concerns:

Quote:
Dear Biker Friend,

Madhus has always been a pioneer in the industry. The risk of being a pioneer is that we have to learn by making mistakes. We have been offering bike wheel balancing since 2017, and as of now, we are servicing almost a 100 high end bikes and superbikes a month. However, recently, we’ve made some mistakes and we’ve heard the critical feedback from bikers like you. We believe that while the issues are few in number, they are not acceptable for us and most importantly for YOU.

We would like to invite you and more bikers like you who have some feedback for us. We need to listen to your feedback in an open manner and with your help, come up with an action plan. We hold ourselves to a high standard that you expect from us and we will address any gaps with your help.

We would like to invite you for the discussion session on 2nd October 2024 ( Wednesday) being a holiday at 7:00 AM.

If you have any other request in terms of time, please let us know.

This is my MO. I always do this when dealing with Tyres of my bikes - Madhu's or elsewhere - the Tyre techs are primarily trained on that trade and MC wheel removals are becoming more and more complicated these days.

Best Regards & Ride Safe
So this is what I finally did today - got the wheels removed and fitted at Gear Gear Motorcycles and had them change the tyres at Madhus.

For anyone else thinking of this method, the costs are as below.

Madhus charges for tyre change - Rs 1180/-
Madhus charges for balancing, including the weights- Rs 1145/-
So total amount charged by Madhus - Rs 2,325/-

Gear Gear labour charges for removal and fitment - Rs 1,298/-
Total came to 3,623 for the tyre change - so not very economical but comes with better peace of mind.

I'm not sure if the labour rates are justified for Madhus though - 1200 for taking two tyres off a wheel and putting it back sounds quite high to me! Is this normal?

In comparison, what are the rates like at Indimotard?

It looks to be quite on the high side. Last time I fitted new Tyres was in 2022. Don't recall what the fitting charges were.

Since the Tyres weren't sold by them, the higher charge??

I rotate, balance and align my wheels diligently at Madhu's every 5k Kms for my car. The rate that you have mentioned here is what they charge for cars. I was looking at a couple of instances of my UPI payments to them - Rs.2266 in Aug 2024 and Rs.2186 in Oct 2023 respectively. I store all their bills, so can provide historic charges if needed to exact accuracy, but as I recall it was around 2Kish all the times, for 4 wheelers

At Madhu's , they have an habit- if they see a T-BHP sticker, they offer a discount on the bill. I don't recall how much the discount % is (can check and say as needed), but the rates I stated here are post the T-BHP discounts.

They offer 10% discount on wheel balancing & wheel alignment for T-bhp members.

The charges for the 2W tyres are quite high when compared to 4W. My last bill for my D390 was 1400+ for installation of TPMS and balancing. The TPMS and it's associated nozzles were provided by me. The tyres were not taken off but removed from one side and fixed back. The balancing done prior to this with tyre installation came to 1200+. The rates mentioned by Crazy driver holds good.
The discount applies only if you ask or if the technician mentions it during billing.. In my 13 years of visit, i got the discount twice. Otherwise you are treated as any regular customer.

Re: Madhus Tyre Centre - Wilson Garden, Bangalore

Scratches on my Ford alloys courtsey Madhus, Wilson garden.
I noticed this only today when washing the car myself after long. I had visited them on 7th September for wheel balancing and in the process changed two of the TPMS that had run out of battery. This was one of wheels that the TPMS was replaced on, so I am quite sure this happened there when removing/refitting the tyre. There was a similar looking scratch on the other wheel that was worked on too, but much less and it reduced after some rubbing. The two wheels that weren't touched were fine. All the 4 wheels were removed anyhow for balancing.

After all this, I had to pay for a TPMS specific valve that was replaced initially which was just 350-400/- They were not willing to remove it from the bill, and that was of no use to me since the Tpms module on that tyre had to be replaced later and that came with a valve. And this after being a regular customer for years.

Anyway that brings and end to the business with them. It is much easier to visit a tyre shop close to me than drive 10 kms in traffic and get my alloys scratched which were scratch free for over 7 years.

Thankfully I didn't even think of getting my Interceptor tyres replaced there.

Mr Moshin from Wilson Garden called me sometime after I posted this and apologized although he is of the thought that it didn't happen there. I think otherwise.
He wanted to set things right for this though and I gave him my feedback as I wasn't interested in any kind of work on my stock wheel nor do I have the time.
One feedback was first in - first out which wasn't followed when I went. I spent almost 2.5 hours there for just a wheel balancing / alignment and tpms fitting on two wheels when I was the first customer on that day. Also mentioned to him that this may have happened due to doing things quickly because of the number of cars coming in.

Anyway hoping these kind of things don't happen again.

Sorry, it's maybe my eyesight but I cannot see any significant scratches.

Edit: The time lapse between event and discovery is over a month. There are too few data points, i.e were the wheels on the same side etc. Frankly, I would prefer you are absolutely certain before publishing.

Did you even try and resolve the situation with Madhus before posting this. I feel your post cannot be substantiated.

I have been a long time patron of Madhus and I’ve never had a bad experience at Madhus when they were in Langford Town and also after they moved to Wilson Garden (Hosur Road).
That being said, I always prefer to be present near the car when it is being worked on. I make sure I’m not disturbing the technicians or other customers during my watchful presence. I’m not the lounge guy who will relax with a coffee while the work is being carried out. I remember just once when I had a coffee quickly while the tyres were being removed for balancing but even then I was watching from inside the lounge through the glass.

Neither am I. I am next to my car all the time and when they remove the tyre from the wheel as well.
I am a long time customer of them which reminds of an another episode from few years ago when I got a Fiat 1100D's wheels rotated and tried getting the alignment done. The wheel cup from one wheel fell off as soon as I drove away. Thankfully one of them saw it and came running and fitted it back. During the same visit, the rear left wheel nuts weren't toqued right which led to that wheel wobbbling.

This episode with my Ford is anyway over now and I don't wish to drag it on here or with Madhus.

If it was the tyre changer that scratched this alloy, wont it leave a scratch of fixed radius as the wheel rotates around the lifting arm(or whatever)? How does it causes random scratches like the one here? Was there any manual effort used?
