re: Leather Upholstery & Steering Grips: Devraj / Karthik Leather Arts (Bangalore)

Nice match of colors, RK !

Pls dont forget the basic care - wiping the leather with moist cloth regularly, to reduce the sweat / grime deposits

Good choice of color and a job well done. Good to see Mr Devraj getting customers from team bhp. I guess he might have well forgotten me by now since it has been a couple of years. Waiting for my next buy to reach out to him again.

Gurudutt, when I last spoke to Devraj, he said he has got customers based on our posts here. Looks like there were more people than the ones who posted here

Devraj definitely remembers the Figo and the Tavera. Regarding the leather material, he mentioned that he usually gets them from Stanley or Ceralli.

I do have plans for leather seats for my Ertiga. He has quoted 34K. Have you guys tried the seats stitched from Devraj? Howz the quality?

Do you have the installation pics. And how good Devraj is in opening sneerings equipped with airbag?

Dear fellow members,

Any leads or help in getting this steering wrapping job in Delhi for my swift. Need a value for money job and not some highly bloated names like stanley.

Thanks and regards

re: Leather Upholstery & Steering Grips: Devraj / Karthik Leather Arts (Bangalore)

For vehicles with Airbag (as in my ZXI), he does not remove the steering wheel. He has the measurement templates for all the models of vehicles. Accordingly, he cuts the leather and makes the basic framework ready. He goes back to the vehicle, ensures that the leather has been cut to the exact measurement and then starts the stitching work in the car.

In case of no airbags, he removes the steering wheel from the car and then takes it to his workshop for stitching.

Unfortulately, I dont have the WIP photos. I was really busy watching him do the stitching on a very hot sweaty afternoon. Sorry

Leather Upholstery/Steering Grips: Devraj (JC Road, Bangalore)

Last year got Seat and Steering wheel Covers stitched for my Tata Indica Ev2 from Devraj and I am pretty satisfied with the quality of work.
What I liked the most is 'Quality work at reasonable price'.

Let the pics do the talking-

OT: @condor & gurudutt- Even I approached Devraj on the basis of good feedback from the fellow bhpians(I was not a member then) and have suggested him to quite a few people.

re: Leather Upholstery & Steering Grips: Devraj / Karthik Leather Arts (Bangalore)

I was looking for car seat covers for my Tata Zest from the time I booked the car till delivery, thus giving me almost 3 months to look at various options Among the options Devraj @JC Road was one recommended by fellow bhpians and was closer to my place than others.

I called him after I got my car delivered and met him at JC Road (He has a shop there, but it does not have parking space. So met him on the road). He brought catalogs for car seat design and some seat cover material samples. I had a pattern in mind and luckily similar one was available with him, so quickly decided the material and stitch pattern and asked him get it done then and there. Problem was as Zest is new, he did not have seat pattern and also that seats are stitched at his workshop in Chamrajpet. So he asked me to come to his workshop the next week.

Since I was also looking for steering cover, asked him to do that. He agreed, but mentioned that as it is new, he will need more time to get the measurements and airbags further complicated the matter (he normally removes the steering, but not the ones with airbag). So I patiently waited for him to get the measurements and after an hour he went to get it stitched. His brother cum assistant came back and started hand stitching the cover. I had asked for all black pure leather and red thread to be used as it went well with my proposed seat cover. Cross stitching was done by hand with use of PV resin for that perfect fit near corners. The whole process took about 2.5 hrs, but I was happy with the results. The cost of hand crafted leather steering cover was Rs 900 which I felt was VFM. Pictures below.

For the seat covers, I went to his workshop where all seats except driver's
were removed and I was asked to come the next day for fitment.

I went the next morning, however seat covers were not ready as promised. So I waited patiently and observed the whole process, which I will describe below.

1. Original seat covers are removed and wiring and clips holding the covers are stitched on the new covers
2. Seat material is affixed with high density sponge of .5 mm thickness to give that look and feel.
3. A specialist then fits the cover on the seats and adjusts the cover for good fit.

I am overall happy with the fit and finish, probably not at a level of OEM fitment, but definitely pretty good for after market fit. Price depends on material and on any special designs requiring machine embroidery starting from Rs 6000 to all the way up to 35 thousand for leather. My seat covers came upto 9000.

Mr Devraj and 2 others from Stanley started the workshop with brand name of Redskin. Found the team to be pretty good with average experience of more than 5 years with Devraj having 8 years of experience.

Congratulations on the seat covers and steering cover.
Looks very good. I love the steering cover. Seems to be a good deal at Rs. 900.
Is it partly made of pure leather and partly made of PU?

I wanna get a steering cover stitched for my Duster. This person seems to be good. Could you please share contact info.

Thank you! It is made of leather, I can confirm it as I saw it before stitching.

I did not mention his number as it is mentioned in the first page of the thread. But here you go!

Name: Devraj.
Contact No: 9964031960.

The finish is pretty good. Its only the rear seat headrests that have a bit of slack in them. But I believe the shape of headrests that comes with the rear seats in Tata may be hard to work with. I saw the same imperfection on the rear headrests when I got leather covers stiched for my Vista (previous car - so unfortunately cannot post pics) from a shop in Kochi. I am visiting Devraj tomorrow to get steering cover stitched for my dazzle blue nano. I spoke to him today and he quoted 900 for the steering job. I hope he has blue leather available in which case I can opt for a black and blue job. Will post the pictures here after I get it done. Thanks for sharing the contact!

re: Leather Upholstery & Steering Grips: Devraj / Karthik Leather Arts (Bangalore)

Hi everyone,
I got the steering cover for my nano done in pure leather from Devraj yesterday. He sure does a nice job. Overall fit and finish is very good and the wheel now feels quite soft and chunky to hold. Now the power steering is a real delight to use. I wanted to go for a dual colour to match the car but could not find an exact match. Now all thats left is for the edges of the stitching to smooth out with use.
Devraj is very approachable and is a pleasure to deal with. I highly recommend him as he is committed to giving customers a neat work and as per their requirement. Parking may be a problem here. I had to reach JC road well before all the shops opened so that I could fit my car in somewhere. He took off the steering wheel and we had to walk a good deal to his shop in 3rd cross road. Now for the cost:
Wheel - Rs 900
Horn pad - Rs 400
Total - Rs 1300
Time taken - 2 hrs for the stitching alone and another half hour miscellaneous.
Here are the pictures:

Thanks a Million to you! I have booked a Tat Zest and was looking for a good place in Bangalore for Seat Covers and Steering Cover! Seems like you have already given the measurements for Zest's Seat which makes our life a lot easier! :-) I will surely get in touch with Devaraj for the same!
