I was doing some investigation for seat covers for my Tata Zest. I found the following 4 options:
  • Full leather on all seats, headrests & steering wheel : 35K
  • Leather in contact areas, art leather in others : 19K
  • Full art leather : 11K
  • Cushioned fabric in contact areas, art leather in others : 9.5K

I went for fabric option as its most breathable & more comfortable in heat, though it also has tendency to absorb sweat & stains. Needs more care & maintenance.

The Art leather I got put on my Uno a decade back is not great in heat, but the AL seats that came on the Aveo are superb, I am yet to find that kind of quality, almost feels like real leather.

Just thought I will share this so you can check how yours is made.

Re: Leather Car upholstery - Karlsson (Bangalore)

I paid for full leather & that is what was promised to me. I get an allergic reaction to non-leather and hence am very particular.

Will check; thanks, folks

Paid a visit to the Karlsson showroom this morning. Wanted to get my steering wheel done up since age was starting to take toll on the material.

Removing the steering column was troublesome since it had not been opened in the past 8yrs! Once off, they asked me to come back in about 3hrs and sent the steering wheel to their Domlur unit (where they do the leather work). I had asked them to use Scandinavian leather (1.5mm) and red thread for the stitches (to match the upholstery).

So, after roaming around Indiranagar for almost 3hrs (got a lot of stuff done, including checking out the Ninja 650), reached back at the showroom and saw that they had not returned with the steering wheel. That's when I had a chance to speak to the man himself - Sajith. We spoke for a while and he explained a lot about leather. Sajith if you're reading this, thanks a lot for explaining about leather and patiently answering my questions.

Shortly thereafter, they arrived with the steering wheel and I was ecstatic! Now let the pictures do the taking

I will be a proud owner of an Ecosport by 15th May. Awesome car in all senses but I have one gripe. The seat has a very small squab and long journeys might be painful due to less under thigh support. My query, can the guys at Karlsson's help with this?

Re: Leather Car upholstery - Karlsson (Bangalore)

What is the price range of Karlsson Seat covers? Do they offer some Art/PU/Nappa/Montano etc kind of stuff or is it pure leather only?

Re: Leather Car upholstery - Karlsson (Bangalore)

Its been 10 years since I started this thread and the leather in my Palio is still in great condition with no splits, cracks or tears. So decided to go with Karlsson again for my newly purchased Ecosport. Went with Nappa Leather and a mix and match pattern based on online designs and other work done by Karlsson and I think it has turned out really well.

Kudos to the fit and workmanship and it was great to catch up with the same team from 10 years ago

We as Bangaloreans are lucky to have the likes of Stanley & Karlsson for our car and home needs. Some YouTubers are making a quick buck showing road-side shops poorly assembling seat covers and calling them best bang for buck, one look at their finishing and I nearly vomit.

Karlsson is nearly faultless in finishing, perhaps way better than stock luxury cars and that is a huge compliment. Of course I'm going only by photos but their designs are beautiful.

We use Stanley since they have ItalPU (artificial but soft and tough leather), their recliners and sofa set are home have the same fabric as does the car. We shun natural leather as much as possible. If Karlsson can use more of such premium thick PU leather and alcantara which they do have, I might pay them a visit next time around.

I did ask and they do have PU and alcantara options, try sending them a message via their facebook page and see if they have something for you

Now, its been 11 years since I got the leather seats from Karlsson for my Linea. It is still pristine with no no damage seen anywhere in the car. Not even a minor damage. Big kudos to the team at Karlsson.
