Incredible detail to restorations, as can be seen in this Bentley, ex-Jaipur.

The Concours is also a chance for America to dress up in their Sunday best.

Many car owners proudly displayed their retinue of period tools, literature and spares

If you don't buy the $800 ticket, food is not included. There are stalls serving some fast food and drinks, though not too easy on the pocket. This bare basic hot dog was the cheapest thing I could get, and for $8!

A well drawn out map and car guides and overall fantastic organisation made moving about that much easier.

The ticket (and main poster) this year featured a Hispano-Suiza which we saw competing in the Saoutchik class.

A great idea for the next time anyone visits

You may remember the Swan car has many novel features, including steam being blown from the nostrils and a musical horn. Another fitment makes the car dump whitewash out the rear for lifelike effect. Here is proof that it works!

The local papers over the whole week contained nothing but news about the Concours.

There is great diversity not only of cars at the show, but even entrant's origin. There was 1 entry from Argentina, 3 each from Austria and Canada, 6 each from Germany and England, 2 each from Hong Kong, Switzerland, the Netherlands and Monaco, 4 from India and 1 each from Mexico, Italy, Thailand and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Thats a total of 35 cars from outside the US!

All in all a life changing experience, and I am very fortunate to have been taken great care of by many. For anyone in the vicinity in the month of August, you must take a couple of days off and visit - you will not regret it!

On a closing note, following are some superb official images (courtesy the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance 2012), of the prize winning cars with Indian connections

And of course the coveted Best of Show!

Wonderful pics. Not a single hard water stain on any car. You must be very organized yourself. How did you manage to remember/document the car, the owner, and his city for each of these?

Re: Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance 2012

Thanks a lot Karl, for the splendid photo feature. I am viewing each picture carefully and its really astonishing as to how the cars from about a century ago, or even seven to eight decades old, are being kept so fresh and pristine looking. It needs a great application of mind and efforts to maintain these beauties in concourse condition. The constant supply of spares, that the Americans may be fortunate enough to have comes a a savior, but nonetheless determination and grit are very much needed.
I believe the Delahayes are among the best deigned in the whole congregation and are radically different in aesthetics. The lovely lines and contours dwarf all other designs.
A real treat for the eyes, I must say. The posts that I am viewing are being thanked, so that I can distinguish the ones I have not laid my eyes on till then.
Thanks again for the lovely thread!

Re: Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance 2012

Thank you for sharing this marvelous experience with us! I cannot even begin to describe the visual treat your photos gave me. Thank you once again for painstakingly photographing and displaying each car with relevant anecdotes.

The magnitude of Pebble beach is something which a layman like me cannot even pretend to understand. As you rightly said, for someone like me, the experience will be sure a bit overwhelming.

The number and verity of classics and vintage cars which were present is truly unbelievable - Pebble beach is more like the Olympics and world cup rolled into one grand gala event.

Attending the whole Pebble Beach Concourse d'Elegance week and staying in pebble beach is one of the items in my bucket list and your thread has reinforced my belief that this is one thing you should see before you die.

PS: This is one of my most favorite threads in Team-Bhp now. Have rated this thread a well-deserved 5 stars. I took a lot of time going through each photos - I have still not finished ogling at the photos and will keep returning here often.

Yes, Delahayes along with Delages and other French marques were fitted with the most outlandish bodies in the 1930s and 1940s. They have traditionally been a favourite at Pebble, and even though a Mercedes took Best of Show, it was bodied by French coachbuilder Saoutchik.

Re: Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance 2012

Faaaaaaabulous stuff and thanks for sharing an eventful walk down in history! The Indian bike brought back memories of Burt Munro. Such amazingly preserved old Bugattis, Ferraris etc etc.

Take a bow bro! Take a bow. And a first visit to USA couldn't have got any better than this

Interesting car, never saw this one. This kind of a body design was characteristically a LeBaron design. Didn't know Dietrich did one too along the same lines.
