Even in times of recession we see that high end collectables are usually insulated from market conditions. Any images of the car in question?

We've come a long way from when one of the Bugatti Royales held the record for many years at around 12 million if I remember right.

The estimates for this car ranged from 5 to 10 Million Pounds.
The car is unrestored, has dents, scratches etc. Mercedes Benz never sold their GP cars, it appears that this car was lying for 30 or so years in a godown. This is the only W196 not in MB ownership.
The owner has remained anonymous. But the sale must be legit, otherwise this auction house would not sell it.
Very few prewar MB GP cars are not in their hands, they actually gave one to the Schlumpf brothers in an exchange deal. I would not be surprised if MB did buy it, but its unlikely as they have all the others.
