Re: My 1964 Fiat 1100D in California

The Pics look Fabulous and Hats off to your passion man.
This brings back a lot of memories from childhood days when these cars used to be frequently seen on the roads.
But to buy and import one from Italy to US is taking your passion to another level.
Very butifully and tastefully restored as well.
Wish you many miles of happiness.

Whaaaaattya beauty! Love the colour, both on the exterior and interior. Just one request - change those rear mud flaps. Plain black and shorter will look great.

Re: My 1964 Fiat 1100D in California

What a stunning car. I learnt driving on our 30 year old Fiat bought by my grandfather in Kolkata, and the car ran and was built like a tank. It was repainted twice, and re-upholstered on each occasion. Was finally sold in 2001 in pristine condition, because there was no garage space left. Loved the smooth steering column mounted gearbox and the lovely soft steering. I have always loved the engine note of the Fiat, and in those days, it could be recognised from a mile away.

Great job in undertaking the restoration, the car looks droolworthy on those California boulevards.

What a beautiful car and kudos to your effort in restoring this beauty. Please share more pics of the car. I'll keep an eye for your car in the streets of Cupertino.

Please don't mind me asking this, have you taken the car to freeways and tested top speed?

This brings back memories. My father had a premier and I learnt driving on it! We used to keep it in pristine condition and it was a nightmare to part ways with it.

Re: My 1964 Fiat 1100D in California

Congrats on fulfilling your dream.

Awesome restoration. It looks like a show piece to be kept in a museum. Even modern day cars fresh out of showroom cant match this in terms of looks and class. The body alignment, engine bay, colour choice, paint quality, chrome quality, trims, interior, everything is top notch. Certainly the best Fiat/Padmini/1100 I have ever seen.

Keep on updating the thread for us..

Regards,

Thanks. Haven't taken it on freeway and probably won't, I don't fee safe doing so. Stevens Creek Blvd and De Anza are good enough for this for now.

Re: My 1964 Fiat 1100D in California

A traffic stopper there. Hearty congratulations for the classy and great restoration work done. I remember spotting a Fiat 1100 D once in a while in the images of US car parking slots of the 1960's. Hence many Americans will be familiar with this model.

This Fiat can be aptly named as Fiat 1100 D California, as Fiat's rich sister, auto maker Ferrari marketed a model as the Ferrari California (Type F149) during 2008-2017.

That, sir, is one of the best looking Fiat's I have ever seen! Fiat 1100s have a special place in my heart as my first classic car was a 1960 Fiat Select which I bought and restored.

Yours looks stunning! The paintwork is fabulous, interiours and gorgeous and the chrome is fantastic!

Kudos to you for having the car imported into the US and getting it restored so pleasingly.

Hope you enjoy years of motoring pleasure with this.

Cheers,
Praveen

Re: My 1964 Fiat 1100D in California

Have been on Team BHP for almost a decade now, and sometimes I think I have seen it all. But every once in a while, a thread shows up which makes one stop and think and say, “This is incredible”. Your restoration of the Fiat 1100 and the wonderful way in which you have shared your labor of love with us certainly falls in that category.

I must admit I am not a huge fan of the Fiat / Padmini - perhaps because of how dirty and polluting the typical Bombay black and yellow cab was. But I did learn driving on a Fiat - and when I see one restored like this, with the wonderfully clean seats, and white wall tyres, one begins to realise that this was indeed a piece of wonderful Italian design. Thanks for having shared this with us.

Phenomenal. Folks like us are lazy with minor nicks on the car here in India and you've restored this classic so so lovingly! Kudos sir - the attention to detail in realizing your dream is exemplary :-)

A lot of your neighbors may have money - but you surely are rich now with this passion project! Money very well spent and a tale for the ages!!

What a great looking car, man. Also, could you mention what are the reactions of people there to your ride? Are they very curious when you park somewhere?

Re: My 1964 Fiat 1100D in California

Do you have any plans to put your car's video on YouTube? It will surely be a great hit I'm sure. Would be a delight to watch it in moving frames.
Makes me also ask you, do you plan to get an amby too?
