Re: Old pictures of Vintage and Classic Cars beyond our borders

The second last part of the series of turn of the century pictures, Towns of America.

The last picture, coincidentally is Easter 1913. A hundred years ago.

Anyone game to hazard a guess what the make of the car is in the first picture?

Possibility of it being a Fiat Corsa?

Doesn't the Fiat Corsa have a tapered radiator cover? Like an flattened on top 'A'? This looks rounded. Chances of it being an American car are higher. But I'm not the expert

Re: Old pictures of Vintage and Classic Cars beyond our borders

A friend sent me some photos - "Remember 1955?" a few of which had some interesting cars and the costs for petrol which I remember well.

-Mac Donald's 15c for a hamburger - now about $3.00. note the sign that states" we sold over 1 million! - now it's in the billions.
-Petrol - 21.5c per gallon - now it's around $4.00.
-A Motel room - $2.00 a night - now the bottom end $50 - $85.

They raised the minimum wage to $1.00 per hour - now it's $7.25.
The Canadian minimum wage is $10.25.

In 1952 my father drove our family of five in our 1950 Morris Minor Convertible from Windsor Ont., across from Detroit to Miami Florida. I recall he spent under $40. for the petrol which was costing about .16 cents per gallon.

Re: Old pictures of Vintage and Classic Cars beyond our borders

Some images from the 1930's. They had disciplined parking lots but also had their share of car accidents.

We can see how these old cars crashed with neither any NCAP rating or monococque body or airbags !

Re: Old pictures of Vintage and Classic Cars beyond our borders

Some old images of London and the UK from yesteryears. Most of the cars seen were then available in India too through the CBU or CKD route.

BTW, did you notice that in your picture the cars all have a stripe painted on the fenders, it seems to be wartime. Old Calcutta pictures have cars with this sort of "war paint".

Below is a Plymouth 1954, back of the picture says "place de la Concord, Paris" in such a bad handwriting that I needed google to help me sort that out. Anyone familiar with Paris may confirm the place.

Cheers harit
To help you sort out, the Plymouth is a 1949. The 1954 was radically different, the last year of this body style. The 1955 was streamlined and given a v-8 engine and powerflite transmission as options.

Re: Old pictures of Vintage and Classic Cars beyond our borders

An image from Great Britain dating back to the late 1930's or early 1940's as depicted by the cars seen. Three Fords (Ford Model Y)and an Austin 10 are seen in the small workshop.

Old pictures of Vintage and Classic Cars beyond our borders-988498_560037247373182_891063872_n.jpg

Incidentally, the Ford Model Y (900cc) was made between 1932-37 and about 175,000 of these were manufactured.
Three Fords here above indicate how common these cars must have been then.

Re: Old pictures of Vintage and Classic Cars beyond our borders

I was most pleased to view the Willys photos, especially the beautifully restored 37 sedan. More people should find interest in this company. For one very important reason, the military jeep. If politics hadn't interfered, Willys Overland would have been the prime patent and contract holder of the jeep.
