The crash of 1929 as it is widely known, took the stock markets to their nadir and the financial system of the world collapsed mainly commencing from the US and spreading like an epidemic to most other countries.
The worst sufferers were the luxury car makers who found no takers. while many with low volumes closed shop. The most notable casualty was the Bugatti Royale, just created and launched by the automobile genius Ettore Bugatti, an Italian settled in France, who had just launched his dream car the Bugatti Royale, the finest car ever built. Just six were built and around three were sold. The other three remained with the family of the car maker.The venture had to be shelved due to total lack of buyers.

I just remembered these facts while writing down my most favourite books, among them being "The Crash of '79" by Paul Erdman which recreates the 1929 events.

This is a crash site of the famed B-29 bomber (US) during its first test flight on Feb. 18, 1943 in Seattle, Wa. Boeing built the B-29's.

This appears to be an Austin, a model which was already dated when this picture was taken, as can be seen from the other cars around.
On the back there is a text, " Main Road, opp. 147 Sussex Gardens". So this must be in UK, but where? Does this block of flats Sussex Gardens still exist?

BTW, all the coloured pics above do not belong in this thread, we are posting old pictures here. Maybe all pictures can be shifted to the Hindustan in UK thread, though some pics do not fit. But here none of the pics fit.

This could be a cab, design dated before the characteristic London Cab by carbodies.

It appears my guess was right, here is a brochure scan (from The Old Car Manual Project) of a 1938 Austin Hire Car. It appears to be a perfect match.

A good period photo. The Austin 10 and Morris Oxford MO are easily identifiable.
The car which you are talking about is a Ford Prefect. All British products in a British colony.

Here is my picture which was published in The Automobile last year. It is probably the same bus, setting in front of the iconic Brandenburg Gate in Berlin.

This is a picture taken in Monaco. There are flags as this was on a historic day, the wedding of Prince Rainer and Grace Kelly.
See the scooter, a Lambretta? The car in the background, a Chevy or an Opel?

Nice pic....In Monaco chances are its more likely to be an Opel + they didn't make Chevys in that shape anyway not with that tail for sure ...what do you think
