"As Americans Figure Out the Roundabout, It Spreads Across the U.S."

JULY 30, 2015

Once seen only in countries like France and Britain, the roundabout, favored by traffic engineers because it cuts congestion and reduces collisions and deaths, is experiencing rapid growth in the United States.

“We have lost roundabouts for political reasons,” said Mr. Walsh, the Washington State transportation official. When a roundabout was planned in Malta, N.Y., north of Albany, 10 years ago, “the community was very split on getting one,” said Carol Breen, a spokeswoman for the New York State Transportation Department. “But afterwards, everyone loved it.”

OUCH!

A woman driving a Mercedes-Benz convertible Saturday morning ran over a $300,000 red Ferrari parked behind her.

The collision occurred at Katie’s Cars & Coffee in Great Falls, Va.

THE EXPRESS TRIBUNE, PAKISTAN
From Karachi to Peshawar

Enthusiasts visit vintage and classic car show in Islamabad.

ISLAMABAD: Hundreds of car enthusiasts gathered on the outskirts of the capital on Saturday to welcome a convoy of vintage and classic cars, which had driven all the way from Karachi.

The Vintage and Classic Car Club of Pakistan (VCCCP) Islamabad-Rawalpindi chapter had organised a day-long car show for the visiting convoy at the 2F2F Go-Karting Club beside the Lake View Park.

Vintage vehicles, For car lovers, a blast from the past

Around a hundred classic and exotic cars and bikes were on display at the show which attracted a large number of visitors.

The vintage car rally had started from Karachi with only nine cars on November 11 with the aim of driving the length of the country to Peshawar. The convoy includes a Mercedes, an MG Grand, Ford roadster, BMW and a Jaguar.

Having driven through Rahim Yar Khan and Multan, the convoy had reached Lahore earlier in the week where a car show was held on November 15 and 16.

The convoy then arrived in Islamabad on November 17, travelling some 15,00 kilometers. After the show, the rally would travel to Peshawar.

Despite the novelty of the visitors, one of the biggest draws at the show on Saturday was an Amil car from 1922.

“We have vintage and classic cars as well including Mercedes Benz, Volkswagen, BMWs, Hummer jeeps and classic bikes on display here,” said Makhdoom Mutaal, a coordinator for the car show. He said the purpose of the show was to create awareness of collection and preservation of classic cars and to celebrate the hobby.

A large number of youngsters and families flocked to the show. Many people were seen taking selfies with exotic cars such as Ferraris, Hummers, Chevrolets and jeeps. However, the reception was far muted than a car show held at the same venue earlier in October.

Towards the end of the show, dozens of participants also lit lanterns.

Jul 06 2017 : The Economic Times (Bangalore)
"Owned by the Sultan of Brunei"
Bloomberg

Apart from the one that belonged to the royal, these vintage cars -some with star lineage featuring Elton John and Peter Sellers -were up for sale at an auction in the UK
1988 Ferrari F40 Berlinetta
This car was ow ned by David Gilmour, who played the guitar for Pink Floyd. He col lec ted hi s car directly from Ferrari HQ in Maranello after a Modena performance of Pink Floyd's Momentary Lapse of Reason tour in 19 8 8. The twin-turbo V8 can go faster than 200 mph and has 478 bhp with an additional 200 hp available in a booster kit.

1995 AMG Mercedes Benz SL 72

When this was introduced in 1995, it was the most powerful car the company had produced, with a 525 bhp V12 engine and a top speed of 185 mph. The car went to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds. Plus,

1978 Turbo Coupé Porsche 911 Type 930

This car was originally owned by Peter Sellers, t h e a c t o r w h o p l ay e d Inspector Clouseau in the Pink Panther series. This Porsche is one of the last cars he owned before his death in 1980. This is the f i r st o c c a sion that the car has come to market since 1987. it had futuristic (for the time) safety features, such as a spring-loaded roll bar. Only 35 were built, and 25 went to the Sultan of Brunei.

1990 GT5-S Coupe De Tomaso Pantera

T h i s c oup e h a s a V8 Ford engine, since De Tomaso was partneri n g w it h F o r d Motor Company at the time it was made. The 330 bhp engine is said to have hit 6 0 mph in about five seconds. The car's top speed is 160 mph. Bent

1985 Bentley Convertible Continental

Elton John was the original owner of this blazing red droptop. He used it in the music video of his 1985 hit , `Nikit a'. John changed the registration plate to read `B20 ELT' when he got the car new, which is how it remains to this day. This two d o o r, r e a r wheeld rive is one of 421 built and has a top speed of 120 mph.

1936 Alfa Romeo 6C 2300

This is known as a `twin-supercharged special' racer restored in the 1970s and raced competitively -and successfully -in the years since. The name refers to the straight-six cylinder style of the engine.

1980 Lagonda Series 2 Saloon

The V8 is unique indeed for Aston Martin's specialty brand, Lagonda. The pop-up head lights, angular nose, four-door sedan style, and gaping grille at the front are all incredibly rare. Plus, it had a top speed of 143 mph and would hit 60 mph in fewer than nine seconds.

2010 Porsche 911 Type 997 GT2 RS Coupé

Mostly a racer, but it's streetlegal too, with a modified 612-horsepower f lat-six engine and a top speed of 187 mph. So, this is a very rare, powerful special Porsche, with a redblack leather interior, ceramic brakes, and 19-inch rims to boot. Its zero-60 mph time is 3.3 seconds.

1923 Bugatti Type 23 Brescia Modifié Torpedo

This is an example of a well-maintained, very rare Bugatti. It was initially one of 200 made but is now one of only 19 surviving. At a time when few cars could cruise at 50 mph, this could easily do 70 mph.

Re: Media matter Beyond Borders for Vintage and Classic Cars and Bikes

The tale of a now resurrected 1947 Cadillac Series 62 by a young enthusiast in the U.S. The story is quite inspiring. The car was rested due to several unavoidable reasons till this owner bought it and took it upon himself to save the till now, neglected machine. Chronicled beautifully with period advts of Cadillacs post WW II, the images can be best viewed on a desktop.
