Media matter Beyond Borders for Vintage and Classic Cars and Bikes

We have such a thread in the Indian Vintage and Classics Section. In the Beyond Borders such a thread would serve our goal of seeing media reports and pictures from abroad.

Images scanned from Quality First (spring 2010 issue) the in house journal of the Morris Cowley Oxford and Issis Owner's Club, Oxford, UK.

This is a 1954 Nash Ambassador that has 15000 miles on its odo. It was bought by a new owner aged 75, who has featured this car in the Old Cars Weekly. The car has Pininfarina touches, known better as the new "Golden Airflight" design. The unique feature of this car is the gasoline filler concealed in the passenger side (right) taillight assembly. This feature alongwith the unique all four wheel covering heavy, front and rear fenders made me take notice and post the pictures (Source Old Cars Weekly).

There are a couple of Nashes in India, one or two of them are Ambassadors too.

There are a few of the late thirties nashes around too, one was recently acquired by the Titus collection

Here's a write-up about a Minerva being found in a Maharajah's stable by a Britisher. He seems to be frustrated seeing its condition.

Re: Media matter Beyond Borders for Vintage and Classic Cars and Bikes

Here is the Hillman Minx story till the Phase Three model beautifully described. The author's reference to the American designer hired by Billy Rootes to design the Phase Three is news. The 1930's Studebaker designer Raymond Loewy was hired and hence the author cites the similarity between the Phase Three and the late 1930's Studebaker model looks. The late 1940's Studebaker Champion has affinities frontal look wise, with the Minx Phase Three. The other fact is that the Rootes Group used the same 4 cyl, side valve 1185cc engine from 1931 (Minx Phase One) till the early 1950's.This engine was designed in the late 1920's.It was however mated to a newer 4 speed gearbox in 1939.
For more here are two pages from The Automobile, UK of November 1999.

More media matter from Russia (the former USSR) and Germany.
Russia and many other countries issue commemorative stamps to honour cars but we have never done that here in India.

More media matter from abroad. Some of the media reports have emanated from India but are foreign stuff.

Re: Media matter Beyond Borders for Vintage and Classic Cars and Bikes

Some images from the Spring 2011 issue of Quality First, the journal of the Morris Cowley Oxford and Issis Owners Club, UK.
The pictures are of the Morris Oxford Series II, 1.5 ton pick-up trucks. The write up there says that many old time Britishers nostalgically remember these Morrises as they were extensively used as milk vans and for goods delivery. There were two variants-one with the covered rear body (the van) and the other with the truck like body (1.5 ton pick-up).
