Re: Goa conquered!! After 587.73km and 29hrs of bi-cycling

A suggestion to anyone who someday wants to ride to Goa from Bangalore. Below are your options.
1. Scenic routes: Take the route which I took. Very scenic and quite tough. You can also take the Mangalore-Goa coastal route. Amazing beautiful and mostly flat.
2. Speed/Distance/Road surface wise: Bangalore-Hubli-Ankola-Goa

Folks, who wish to jump onto aki's track, please remember the golden and the only rule, train, train and train with patience. Otherwise you are in for a very bad experience later. Talk with aki.

Wow akshay I came here from your other bicycling TL and this one takes the cake!

Doing all that distance on a bicycle and that too ALONE is an amazing feat. You have so much to tell your grandkids already

@akshay380

Wow amazing, especially doing it alone. Truly one of a kind stuff.

For all practical purposes I am past a st'age' where I can't even imagine myself doing anything remotely close to this. Though I wish to do it in a convertible with an automatic gearbox :-)

Awesome going, Akshay! :clap
I have started cycling a few months back and have touched about 40 kms in one go and now have immense respect for long distance cyclists; this is wonderful!

PS: heard of a guy from the cycle club who just did Delhi-Goa in 5 days.

Re: Goa conquered!! After 587.73km and 29hrs of bi-cycling

Great Job. You are the third person I know who covered such a distance alone. The first being my grandfather who set out on a All India Tour on his cycle, long before I was born. I have seen him ride around 300-400 kms at the age of 75. The second was my friend Ajay who came from Pune to Hyd to celebrate new year. Nevertheless great respect for you, for achieving this. Keep it going, follow your heart.

Truly incredible. I feel very proud of having driven from Bombay to Goa and back - and you go and do a similar distance on a bicycle. Also very nicely written, with loads of photos. It will certainly inspire many a BHPian to take up cycling (at least a few kms on weekends).

Thats an amazingly inspirational ride Akshay.
Have done this route (on 4 wheels only, sadly) many a time and know how mesmerising it is.
Have a longing for a trip like this on my BTwin, which I purchased a few months ago, but havent had the opportunity yet to full fill it..someday..

Re: Goa conquered!! After 587.73km and 29hrs of bi-cycling

Congrats! That was an awesome effort. Going on a cycle, you must have witnessed/seen many such scenes and objects; which normally would have gone unnoticed, had you been zipping by in a car. I am rating this thread 5 stars for your effort. Well done!!

Akshay,
Congrats! This is truely amazing.
I am sure being on bicycle you would have enjoyed the scenic beauty much more than us driving the same route on 4 wheels.
Really curious to know how was the riding experience amidst the zipping cars, bikes, trucks etc?

Re: Goa conquered!! After 587.73km and 29hrs of bi-cycling

:O Amazing feat. Never thought indians were interested in doing these trips on bicycles. Kudos to your efforts. I've longest I've done on my bike was 2550 kms in 36 hours but was not really amazed after doing it, But just by reading your summary, I dropped my jaw! Superb!

Truely awesome! Apart from training yourself physically for this endurance test, how did you prepare yourself to face the mental stresses that must have challenged your motivation? Curious to know.
