The 50k goods rule is there, but I am sure the Customs Officers are smart enough and would flag it down ?
Why? As long as you show a bill of sale? Best is to have the bike used a bit before you go to the states. And then buy it from your friend or relative. Better still to have him have a bill of the same from the LBS that is under 50k in the first place. A used bike, even very lightly used, cannot be equated to brand new pricing regardless of the date of sale.

Actually my brother might be asked to head to the UK for some company work - short trip (3 weeks). He got struck by this "idea" to buy a bike there and bring it back with him, which I feel is quite an iffy idea as the bike he wants to buy is £1700 Ribble. He too was like I will use it there for a bit so that there is some wear on it....but I am super skeptical of this idea as if it doesnt go well, the duty is quite a bit. Hence wanted to just cross-check here if anyone has done it before.

Many people have. Recently I know of two Canyons and one Ribble in Poona. And in the past year a brand new very high spec Giant TCR Advanced Team Edition.

Picked up this bad boy when I accompanied my friend to a local bike store. He wanted to buy an entry level hybrid, but the only purchase done: the Moon Orion, by me, for Rs.1800.

It is really difficult to walk out of a bike store without buying atleast one accessory.

Re: The Bicycles thread

Anyone here used bedrock tyres?. I bought a 700*35c tyre from a local wholesale shop for Rs 300. I am a bit skeptical about its quality. I bought a Vittoria tyre of same size for Rs 700 last month.

This bike is running (flying) on Bedrock 35c. They just about squeeze into place and fit. He is very happy with them.

Looks good. What is your concern? Its a pretty old and well known company. ISI marked as well. And 35c is a size that's very common in the market.

Pardon my lack of knowledge. I never heard about this company. Ralson and Vittoria was the only tyres I used before. This was my concern. Now that is gone and changed the tyre and ready to ride

Re: The Bicycles thread

I am in the market for 2 cycles for my twins aged 10. They have considerably outgrown their existing ride.
I am trying to source it locally instead of online so that services will be easier for me.
The only cycle shop in town deals mainly with Stryder and 91Outdoor. I am told that 91outdoor is from KTM and seems to be costlier than Stryder.

My budget is around 10k/cycle.

Any recommendations from these brands? I am planning to take my boys to try a few models soon.
The seller also said that he can get other brands too but delivery may be a bit delayed than the other 2 he normally deals with.

Re: The Bicycles thread

Hello BHPians. I'm looking to buy a bicycle in order to get some cardio into my fitness routine.

My riding will be primarily on roads. A cycle with gears is my preference. I'm 6'1 and riding posture needs to be right. My budget is around 12k.

I would appreciate any recommendations.

Re: The Bicycles thread

Here is a small query from a newbie.
I own a Hercules Roadeo Hank 27.5 (2017)and I'm planning to change the rear cassette flywheel as the sprockets aren't holding up the chain properly and the chain slips a lot of times.
The Original one is a 7 speed 14-28t cassette. Can I change the size to something like 12-28t or anything else if this one's not available out in the market. Would I also need to replace my chain if I change the rear cassette?

If it's a screw on threaded freewheel then for a 7 speed 14t is the smallest cog you can get.

If it's a 7 speed cassette, you can get one with a 12t.
