Even today doping tests cannot confirm doping. For example to test EPO, heamatocrit tests are done. One is suspected for EPO only when the haematocrit is higher than a given value. So it is known that most people use EPO such that their heametocrit levels dont go higher.

Although it is my opinion that blood doping should be legalised. Its ones own blood pumped back into the body.

But i find USADA digging up old samples and re-testing them, as setting dangerous precedent. Now, Mr. Ben Johnson has every reason to stop saying "why only me?" and instead give a call to USADA and request them to dig out Carl's 1988 Seoul-origin pee pee sample and have it re-rested. The minor irritant being, the 1988 records would need to be re-written and the 100m Gold would have to be given to the fellow who came in sixth in that race. Every one who finished ahead of him were juiced to the brim, it seems.

But iam going seriously OT here.

Idea of storing samples and re testing is the following:

1. Substances not known now may come up a few years hence
2. Newer testing methods may come up for substances now know.

I don't agree that it is a bad precedent. If an athlete knows that he may be caught years later too, it would [hopefully] act as some deterrent. All goes to clean up the sport as much as possible.

Fully agree. The deterrent puts the fear of god into people (matter of speaking). It is IMPORTANT.

Here is another interesting link on why LA decided to abandon his fight:

Fascinating reading.

Folks,

Finally I decided to shell out the extra baggage cost to airlines and put my bike in a hard case to keep it safe on the trip.

Here is how I packed the bike in the trico iron case.

Saar, if I see the title of this thread, it says "The Bicycles Thread" and not "The Bicycling Thread" and as per my latest knowledge Lance is not a model of Bicycle. lol:

This is thread is perused by a lot of folks for cycle purchase advice. However I'm totally open to discussing Lance, Livestrong, Contader, doping on the "Bicycling" thread :). Hope you get my drift.

Congrats, super case that is. Which airline? US to India? Try BA, Jet, Emirates, Qatar. They won't charge you for a bike.

Hi,

Thank you. As of now Jet is out of operations to EWR or JFK from Brussels hence it is out of scope.

Kuwait airways is in the top of the list in terms of ticket price, in stead of paying $200 extra for each ticket I would rather pay $100 for one bike and get it transported to India. Somehow this bike will reach Chennai shortly.

Can anyone suggest links for online shopping of bicycle accessories in India. Should have good variety of items and brands listed. I am looking for front and rear lights, mounting brackets.

Decathlon has some limited cycling products. However you need to be a member to buy anything from them. They have their store in bangalore. You can also buy through any existing member on request.

Ebay.in also lists some of the branded cycling accessories(they call it global easy buy). You pay them in rupees and the product is bought from an international seller and shipped to you. I however find it expensive.

Dealextreme has lots of cheap cycling accessories(especially lights). At times they may be good. The delivery however takes anything between 4-6 weeks.

milecruncher have you sold your forme1?

Please suggest where I can check models in Chennai. I know the regular places. Any multi brand stores that offers services makes sense. Will check out Pro-bikers on OMR.

Model suggestions also welcome. I am looking at a hybrid type for about 15-20K. Not into long distance cycling and events, just shorter trips to keep fit. I am a short guy at 5"3. So something that fits my structure will be great.

Airlines that charge will charge 150 dollars/euros for a flight to India, and 50 dollar/euro for a internal flight [usually]. Schwinn MTB might not be worth bringing. Don't know what the value of the bike is though.
