Oh my God man!

I don't know why you waste your time with fat tyres and heavy squishy suspension for roads abd terrain like this.

You have so many anyways.

Just get a decent lightweight road bike man. Please

These roads are crying out for it!

Cheers, Doc

My last morning ride (cycle was stolen the following night) to Aerocity, Delhi around 2 years back. I still miss my cycle & morning rides :(

Thanks for thread Promit & refreshing my memories.

He probably rode across that river and over the mountains back home.

Love the paint scheme of the new Scott bikes, quite unique shades and always stand out in the crowd (without being loud).

I don't know much about road bikes, and hence the question - why the handlebar position slightly different. Set like that for better aerodynamics?

Do you know that Eric once actually found a river salvage bike that was made in Kazakhstan and had probably flowed all the way down to Manali from there. I kid you not. Do a search.

I love how he works with old bikes. A man after my own heart.

The stem has probably not yet been tightened. The bike is still being set up.

Cheers, Doc

Yes I remember reading that episode. Cycling in the Himalayas is great joy. God willing.

Hehehe... Ah, Doc... only SOME of our roads are calling for it... come on up and see what people are riding here... see the rest of the roads... see if you can find a single roadie or even hybrid amongst hundreds of mtb's...

...and see what my return loop and alternate route look like (posted this elsewhere earlier).

Very mixed terrain here.

Also see the Riverside hybrid I posted on the main thread, which is being built as my "roadie"... will have the same 700x35's as your ACT and weigh about the same, too... Currently at 12.5kg with pedals, steel handle, and everything else but tubes & rear tyre (just ordered).

I'm getting there... :-)

Roads also "getting there", though they generally deteriorate rapidly after re-smoothing...

Maybe someday...

But for now, EVERY cycle is a compromise here... 700x42's would've moved the Raleigh a bit more in the road-friendly direction... If I could've found them...

But in the final analysis, as I've said a couple times earlier, I'm not in it for speed/ distance, so as of now, more rolling resistance = more physical fitness gained more safely in less time on the road...

I realize that in the age of Strava that's not how most people are thinking/ functioning these days...

That's the old school way of looking at it, and yes we're both old schoolers.

Heavy bike, fat tyres is okay for the first 2000 odd kms after a break, to build back (top up) your base fitness and breathing and muscle tone. Base miles. I'm a big believer.

But after that you are only using up a finite resource ... your knees mainly.

No cheap spares or jugaad for those available in any parts bin yet.

I like wgat you're planning for the old school steel rigid fork Riverside. 35c's at the right pressure roll quite beautifully and present a really cushy though lively ride.

Cheers, Doc

Thank you! But even in the group ride picture (in the below quoted post) the handlebar orientation looked different

You're absolutely right. It's an odd position. Makes the drops useless, and locks the hands into the hooks. Also on the hoods the wrists will be bent at a pretty acute angle. Might work for this rider ...

Yes, his bar is rotated down way more than the neutral position.

Re: Post pictures of your Bicycle on day trips here!

Easy middle ring spin to Uruli Kanchan and back today morning.

Spinning really works wonders to wash the lactate and fatigue out of sore middle-aged muscles.

A great night's sleep also helps a lot
