Thank you goandude. True, indeed its very challenging to manage such a large number of cyclists but hats off to the IAS volunteers, they don't leave any room for complain. These are a dedicated gang of cycling enthusiasts & each time I see their commitment for the event participants, my respect for them grows multifold. I have participated in just 2 events organized by them till date, Pune-Pandharpur-Pune Cycle Wari & Pune-Shivneri-Pune Independence Day Ride but I am already a fan of their meticulous planning and even t management. For the former event we had 1200 cyclists and managing hydration, breakfast, lunch, dinner, accommodation etc at a very reasonable cost is quite commendable.

Re: Post pictures of your Bicycle on day trips here!

No pictures yet but I will get plenty of opportunities in the coming weeks as I resume my commute by bike. Yesterday was the first day of commuting by bike in 2 years and first time ever from my new place.

Since I will be going to work only 50% of the times, I hope to use my bike for almost all of the days I commute. That should make up for not having a hybrid car in my garage

If I have to go to office I'll definitely look into electric assist bikes. Seeing a sharp uptick in ebikes around me. Hate seeing them pass me effortlessly while I grind in 1st gear

Re: Post pictures of your Bicycle on day trips here!

Here are some pics from my second day of bike commute. First day was hot as hell so didn't bother to take any pics

Took these 2 on the way to work. That highway is what I usually take when I drive.

Instead of looking at an ugly backend of a car in front of me, bike commute gives me these views:

This is the route back home. The hills towards the end are really character building hills!

It was an almost all gold star ride though

Haha. Yeah that can be annoying. There is an interesting article in TheAtlantic about the identity crisis that e-bikes suffer. It was quite a funny read.

Re: Post pictures of your Bicycle on day trips here!

Did a nice 100km RUSA Permanent ride yesterday with a few friends. The backroads of Massachusetts are a dream to ride on!

The early morning sunlight hitting the waters is the perfect motivation one needs to get out and ride the bike

Post pictures of your Bicycle on day trips here!-img_1164.jpg

6 of us started, 2 peeled away after 20 miles due to other obligations and the remaining 4 did the full 65 miles. I am the third one in the line.

RUSA is short for Randonneurs USA, and they have a set of routes varying from 100k to 1200k that members can ride any time of their choosing. Members are awarded prizes for various achievements. I wonder if I can get the P-12 award, which is for riding a 100km route for 12 consecutive months. Being in this part of the country, the winter months are going to be the biggest challenge.

25 kms dirt ride through the Jogimatti forests today, great weather and lovely scenery! Do notice the leopard ,peacock crossing signs and the caked up tyres. A sunday well spent!

^ Beautiful! Red soil reminds me of Konkan region of MH. A place I hold very dear to my heart but could never go cycling there.

Didn't know about this group. I will check this out. Completing BRMs was a big thing in India. Here it does not seem as popular. Many people I talked to weren't even aware of BRMs, SRs etc.

RUSA has many regional groups. Assuming you are in Seattle, you would want to check out the Seattle Randonneurs, https://seattlerando.org/
I can see from the RUSA website that they have a long list of events, which makes me think they are quite active! They have events all year round, unlike here in Northeast where the winter months are meant for hibernation.
https://rusa.org/cgi-bin/eventsearch...38&sortby=date
Btw, these rides are sanctioned by ACP, the parent body of RUSA.

It's active with many city based chapters but some of them are more active than the others (dormant). Yes, it doesn't get the fanfare in the cycling community there as much as it does in India coz you have a lot more options (there are several locally setup competitions/riding events). I did a 200 BRM in Wisconsin almost a decade ago, but had to travel some 150 miles from Chicago to get there - the local chapter hardly was organising any events. There were only about 10-12 riders; most of them had travelled from different cities. In comparison back then a brevet in Mumbai or Pune saw 40-50 riders easily.

Re: Post pictures of your Bicycle on day trips here!

Another nice weekend, and another permanent ridden. This time for 200K. The route is sometimes used as a regular event as an overnight 200k, where riders start around 7 or 8PM. I have done that once and it was an amazing experience to ride all night. During the day the route takes on a different shape as it travels through some busy roads with traffic, goes through a downtown area with traffic lights at every pedal stroke and in general is less enjoyable during the day. However, any miles on the bike are good miles. Oh and we saw a moose too, who got annoyed with us when we didnt stop taking its photos and almost charged at us!!

Re: Post pictures of your Bicycle on day trips here!

Fixed up donor bike while I decide on the frame and stuff. It's rather lithe for what it is. Definitely more flickable and faster than Giant Revolt that I had (now sold), the disc brakes are not the best but work okay.

Also who thought white hoods were a good idea on a gravel bike? Freshly washed hoods are dirty as sin just after two rides.

Sunday morning ride to the windmills, climb was brutal but the views were stunning. Lemon grass covered hills of Chitradurga, 27 kms mostly through the dirt tracks.

Re: Post pictures of your Bicycle on day trips here!

Put together front derailleur after some effort and went on trial run. Its working nicely, a slight rubbing when rapid shifting the gears but nothing of concern.
Also fall has started!
