Kamshet Saturdays

Lovely weather. Light rain in parts. A bit of sun towards the end but luckily home was near. Headwinds from hell going, struggle fest. A helping tailwind for a strong return.











Closing out July at a shade under 1400 km, just short of the 1500 target I was trying for. A few bad days, either laziness or recovery was all it takes to slip.

With a decent vase and miles in the legs, on to August now, hopefully a lot stronger!

An old entry but a worthy one nevertheless.

Among other attractions, San Francisco has a very enjoyable cycling trail that is designed to take you through the city and its many tourist spots, through the Golden Gate bridge, over to the lovely town of Sausalito and then the option of cycling back / taking the ferry back to San Francisco, with an Alcatraz flyby. What makes this more enjoyable is, despite San Francisco being a very hilly town (with streets going up/down at steep gradients), the routes have been marked out to ensure you have as a much a flat trail as possible. (This is of course, the mapped out trail, you're free to choose your own).

There are several bike rental shops across downtown, and the bikes are maintained in pretty good condition. (You get the bike and helmet).

The trail we took:

San Francisco downtown -> Fisherman's Wharf -> Dolores Park -> Lombard Street -> Golden Gate Park -> Golden Gate Bridge -> Sausalito -> San Francisco by ferry. (Do note, it's been a while so the order may be incorrect)

Did my maiden Lavasa ride today (man made hill station near Pune). We were a group of 5 riders. Put the bikes in car from my home till Pirangut (Hotel Sripad) and from there we started the ride. Actual plan was to do a round trip Pirangut-Mutha-Temghar-Lavasa-Dasve-Panshet Dam-Varasgaon Dam-Khadakwasla Dam - Peacock Point - Bahuli - Mutha-Pirangut. It was a bit unfortunate that we couldn't go beyond Lavasa as planned due to landslides and bridge submerged under water. Nevertheless, this was my most memorable monsoon ride till date. Never enjoyed such a rainy ride in a great company of 4 other friends. One of the friends made wonderful arrangements of breakfast and lunch at Hotel Sripad (Pirangut), such lovely and delicious food.

It was raining throughout the ride. When the showers were too heavy we took haults, else continued in light showers

Today first time in my 3+ years cycling history I got very bad cramps. I was literally lying flat on the wet road. First thighs, then calf muscles. It was so bad that I thought I won't make it to the top. But thanks to one of my fellow riders offering me the ORS sachet that he was carrying and other friend for massaging my calf muscles, that gave me such a big relief from the unbearable pain, I could make it to the top.

This is one good trail to explore the city. I too got a chance to do it sometime in 2016. My friend used to stay in Sausalito, so we too the ferry to SFO and then rode back to his place. You get some good coffee and food also in the SFO Ferry terminal. And the place is notorious for bike theft as well is what I heard. So my friend used to go check on the bikes every 5 minutes.

I usually avoid riding in the rain. Today got caught in a heavy heavy downpour a good way away from home in Central Delhi. Considered calling home for a bailout, but ended up riding home. 60-70% of the distance in torrential rain. Got soaked to the bone, but was decent considering sparse Sunday morning traffic.

About a month back (27th June 2021 to be precise), did a ride to Bhandara Dongar (hill) and Kunda Mala near Dehuroad.

Bhandara Dongar is a small hill around 5-6 km from Dehugaon. Saint Tukaram Maharaj used to come here on top for meditation and find inner peace.

Kunda Mala is having beautiful calcium rock formations in the river bed of Indrayani river. Sharing some pics from that ride.

Very nice steep but short climb. Mariaii (sp?) at 10%+ is even better. Both great for training but sadly too far for me. Bopdev base though is just 11 km.

Went for a leisurely ride this evening with my girl; her first time out with the brand-new bike. Did around 17 kms and then got back home. Slowly need to get her geared up slightly longer rides
