Re: Cycling destinations around Bengaluru

Did the Manchanabele dam yesterday. Was surprised to see both the gates which leads to the dam are closed and was told that this is closed from couple of years.

There is one road which runs parallel to waters which leads to a few villages. This is a mud road after the initial patch of cement road. Again, this one is guarded by the security who I found to be a bit easy going on the cyclists. Took this road for a couple of kms and it was a nice one.

If you plan to try this mud road, visit early in the morning when the security might not be around. Its a cement road(towards right) which is 1 km before the actual manchanabele location shown on google.

How many of these places are pet friendly? I see some nice locations for dog walking. Can you folks please mention this for each location that you post about?

Thanks!

I went to Manchinabele again but with decathlon group. This time it was a slight diversion which gives a very good view of Savandurga hill.

This is pet friendly. Infact there is lot of space and very few people even on a weekend.

Cars can only go till the last km where the entry to the viewpoint is dug up. You will have to trek for about a km. Its an easy one. Bikes and cycle can be taken in but not cars. There is no one to guard this point.
If you need the link:
https://maps.app.goo.gl/t8xHHQaLBCjnzAXr6

Dam cannot be seen from here. You will have to get back to the road and drive further a couple of km and you can see the dam from the road.(Public is not allowed inside).

Re: Cycling destinations around Bengaluru

If you plan to cycle for couple of hours and interested in visiting a waterfall closer to Bangalore, try Thottikallu falls(TK falls). I went in the morning when there was no guard and was able to go even to the top of the falls.

TK falls is in Kanakpura road. You cross Art of Living and have to take a left turn where there is a restaurant called "The pepper"(On the right side of the road). This road is very good.
The one google suggests goes through a village, narrow road and also via some farms. Very tough to navigate if it has rained previous night.

Cars/bikes/cycles all can go till the entrance. There is a small walk of about 300m to get to the falls. If you are a bit adventurous type, you can look for a trail which takes you to the top of the falls and there too there is a walk of about 100m.

I dont think there is any problem taking pets along but again, there was no security when I went so cant be 100% sure.

I would say, avoid pets in the forest areas. We have spotted peacocks in Hennur Bamboo forest, and Avalahalli. Turahalli is largely fenced with boards everywhere that say, pets are not allowed. These are protected forests and dogs will be hugely risky.

We had once taken our cocker spaniel (then a few month old) to Devanahalli fort. This place is good for pets if on their leash. We let him off and for a while he enjoyed folks around him, but then chased a little girl who started running.

Last week, again at Hesarghatta, there were dogs, and everyone around them were enjoying.

So yes, Devanahalli, Hesarghatta and most other lakes are pet friendly

When on the Cycle thread it is mandatory to put a pic where your Bicycle is featured. Rider optional ..

Re: Cycling destinations around Bengaluru

Another obscure location, next to Decathlon on the Airport road. This one is an old temple ruin that dates back to the Chola kingdom, called Chikkajala fort

Re: Cycling destinations around Bengaluru

Gulhatti Kaval:

This is a nice trial with very good scenery and a couple of lakes on the way + a Dam. We ended our trail at the lake. Didnt feel safe to go beyond this lake and the condition of the road was not good to take the cycle. Till this point, you will see villages and also people walking and commuting.

You can visit this via Kanakapura road or via Bannerghatta road. If you want to enjoy the scenic route, take the Bannerghatta road. It goes via the Bannerghatta National park. You have to take a deviation at Taralu to go to Gulhatti Kaval.

We took below route:
konanakunte cross --> Gottigere ---> Bannerghatta ---> Kaggalipura road ---> Taralu ---> Gulhatti kaval.

https://goo.gl/maps/DhfybrQ4uDFCqnx3A

There are no eateries once you take the deviation from Taralu. So, carry some fruits and snackbar.

Nelligudda Tank Bund:

https://goo.gl/maps/aNYi4Kjs5b2sBdE68

This is about 7km from wonderla. Its recommended you go via Wonderla route to enjoy the trial. Recently made Mysore road is a joy to cycle. Once you hit the entrance of the wonderla, you will have to continue to get to this Nelligudda Tank.

A nice trail in the midst of greenery. You can park the cycle and take a walk on the bund enjoying the lake. Lake was full and overflowing when we visited due to recent heavy rains. We spent a good amount of time just hearing the sound of overflowing water.

We took a different route on the way back. From Nelligudda, Mysore road is just 2 km and there are lot of options to have breakfast at Bidadi. We had awesome idlis at Sree Shivasagar Thatte Idli(https://goo.gl/maps/6vHu6c8GwyLLdEDD9)

Re: Cycling destinations around Bengaluru

We had gone here twice, and had returned back without finding it.
Today, were able to spot this once famous picnic spot, on the map and went there.
Its tough to reach the spot due to a lot of rains, and the trails leading to this place are muddy. Had to clean our shoes for quite some time after coming back.

Once we braved through the bushes, we were greeted to Endless grasslands. Till your eye can see
Cycling destinations around Bengaluru-img_4247.jpg Cycling destinations around Bengaluru-img_4262.jpg

To get there, take the right after Nrityagrama, until you reach a left only turn. Park your cycles here and walk a little. Look for "Hesarghatta grassland" and not "Hesarghatta Grass farm"

New place: Kundana fort
Kundana Fort
https://maps.app.goo.gl/gtmK6CaEhwr9DhyC7?g_st=ic

It is off the Devanahalli road, on the Dravid Padukone road. Beautiful roads for cycling
A desolate place, we found no one there. yet pleasant on a winter morning.

Probably the toughest climb for a cyclist. A good 400 Mts of a straight uphill.

Re: Cycling destinations around Bengaluru

Any fellow members being stopped from cycling inside the GKVK campus? The security guards are stopping cyclists from entering the campus from Bellary Road entrance and also objecting to cycling inside. Not sure what is the logic behind this when polluting cars and two wheelers are given a free pass. The guards I spoke to, did not divulge any reason except that they have been instructed to stop cyclists.

Re: Cycling destinations around Bengaluru

Thank you all for the great suggestions. I only do the Chikka Tirupati and Kolar Highway stretches and these would be a welcome change.

Am posting editable Komoot for the benefit of those interested in doing these routes . These can be edited in the free web version of Komoot. I am not rating these as I have'nt done them yet.

Re: Cycling destinations around Bengaluru

I had one of my longest rides from Yelahanka to Nandi statue but completely avoiding Bellary road. Turned off at PPS Ford passing Ryan, Stone Hill and many such institutions

Cycling destinations around Bengaluru-pxl_20230513_015135678.jpg

Extremely scenic, devoid of traffic except for local residents (this on a Saturday). But the road can get desolate and there aren't any way side shops for a quick bite

Past the cross over across Dodaballapura highway, the trail gets even more scenic (and desolate)
