I was very lucky to buy a brilliant Raleigh 29er MTB 2018 used after finding it on OLX in 2020.

Price when new: 40k

Price I got it for: 21k

Accessories included: Bullhorn style grips, normal grips, front light, rear light, stand, bottle holder, 2 geltech seat covers and brand new tyres, bell and a combination lock

The guy who sold it unfortunately had a back injury and had to quit cycling. So got an impeccably maintained example. Rims and tyres are in excellent condition. Just had to do one service and did a deep wash and wax and it's as good as new. Have been using it for the last 2 years now and it's one of the best purchases in my life. The 29 inch tyres are great for absorbing bumps and accommodating my 6 foot frame.

Cycles have no parts which get outdated and pre owned cycles make a brilliant case for themselves. Great idea for a thread! clap:

I love pre-owned cycles a lot, there is not much to go wrong here once you get a hang of analyzing cycles.

I have been walking the pre-owned route for my daughter's cycles.
This way i was able to find well maintained cycles for a steal, and i could switch cycles for her as she was growing in height.

I bought BSA Champ flora 16inch ( Almost brand new ) for 2k on OLX.
After 1.5 years i again bought BSA Champ flora 20 inch from OLX ( Again for 2 k ), this one was 2 years old but immaculately maintained.

After this we bought a 24 inch Hercules Sparx 24T ( 2 year old well maintained ) for 2.5K

I was instrumental in helping a friend buy his first cycle - Montra Helicon for 10K, also got another friend a well maintained Montra Trance for 13k which he rode for 5k kms and eventually sold it for 15k :)

I recently was able to get a Mint condition BSA Ladybird Hazel for a friend for 4k ( Including side wheels and bicycle number lock ).

I keep browsing OLX regularly for good deals.

I got a pre-owned cannondale bad boy a few years. It’s a great bike..it looks slick and rides like a charm!

Initially I was considering going for a basic decathlon bike, but once I started to research the various types of bikes and brands, I decided to get a good hybrid bike from a reputed make.

However, the good ones were pricey(upwards of 60k), and so I decided to go the pre-owned route with a budget of around 25-30k.

The search was long and arduous…with me scouring various bike forums, Fb, OLX and what not. Bike affair (hyderabad) had listed a few specialised bikes on sale…while I was tempted by the discount, they were still 45k+

I finally chanced upon a cannondale bad boy in a Bangalore forum. It was a great looking bike with a matte black finish, and had all the bells and whistles you could wish for. The owner was leaving the country shortly and was looking to sell for 30k.. he was happy to click some pics and also got the bike serviced.

I asked a frnd in Bangalore to check it out, and then got it packed and shipped to hyderabad. Took it to Bike Affair, got it reassembled and serviced.

Used it often for about an year, until someone in my apartment slashed the tyre (teenagers I guess!). The tyres are super expensive (5k each) to replace, so did not bother to replace during covid, and it has been idle ever since.

I hope to revive this after rainy season…if anyone can suggest a budget friendly replacement for my current tyres (thickslick tires 700c x 28c), that would be greatly appreciated :)

It was supposed to be available in July but now they have moved it to August. I think Canyon is coming up with a new version of the Ultimate lineup. I just hope that they retain the rim brakes + Ultegra combination.

The bike inventory is dismally low around here. I have looked all around.

In the used market, there are a few good vintage bikes available though, but I already have one of those.

The doc was recommending Ralsons as a vfm option that is cheap and easily available in this market. Search for his other posts including his own experiences.

Just googled this and wow it's a cool bike! 30k looks like steal, when I see the list price at 2400$! You got really lucky.

I think mine is a Cannondale Bad Boy 4, 2016 model which was around 60k in India. So 30k is still a great deal.

And boy does the bike look good in matte black :loveit

Ralsons looks like a good vfm option but is only available in 700*25c, and seems they have no plans for 700*28c :unhappy

I guess I can still use 25c, which is apparently thinner and with lesser comfort. But I’ll have to replace the tubes too as it is a different size bracket.

I’m trying to keep it as close to original as possible, so ideally looking at same 700*28c from thickslick (which retail at $30 each in US vs 5k quoted here). So leaning towards getting from US if I can’t find a good brand in budget here.

Canyon moved the date again on me for their Ultimate CF SL 8 bike.
So, I switched tracks and pulled the trigger on a Cannondale SuperSix EVO Red eTap bike from The Pros Closet. It will arrive next week! Can't wait for it!

So the Merida has been put up for sale. The wife hardly has been using it over the last 6+ months with only 1-2 rides occurring every fortnight. Seemed logical that someone else could make better use of the cycle. Sad to see it go - it's a great bike in excellent condition even after nearly 4 years. I would have loved to use it but the size is a bit too small(er) for me and the wife has clearly moved on to other priorities.

Hey guys, I just got an sub 20k cycle and already had chain coming off the crankset and derailleur.

I looked up Google and understand Shimano Tourney as base models and there are better group sets available.

I prefer to sell this off and get better model with rear gears alone with smooth shifting mechanisms.

I saw YouTube video about chain less gear system called Shimano Alpine which don't have such issues at all.

Are those models available and what's cost at all.

Or is there any options around 20k budget to get good ones which will not have chain coming off issues. Please advice. Thanks in advance.

More details would be great - bike model, handlebar type, when is the chain falling off and where etc. Also is it a new bike or used?
Having said that, the groupset being low end has no bearing on chain coming off crankset or cassette. It points to front and rear derailleurs not tuned properly. Specifically the limit screws. In all probability those screws are not in right position and are allowing to fall off its limit hence the name limit screws.

This is an easy fix that any bike shop would be able to do OR you can do it at home after watching some YT videos.

The second one could be overly short or overly long chain. If that indeed is the case, you definitely need to take it to bike shop and get the chain measured up to correct length.

Third, if the chain is regularly coming off at crankset - check if chainring is warped or worn out.

Hero sprint pro 27.5 24 speed variant it is. It's flat bar handle and it's brand new. I did a 10km ride and had chains coming off - started with changing front gear while pedaling slow. I was said to press longer for switch and also said to keep the chain straight as much as possible.
Yeah seller did thorough check. I'm learning stuffs as well thanks to tons of YouTube video.

Front crankset was bent and got it replaced from another bike but a certain degree of bend is there. That's how it is was the response by shop folks.

Okay. So you have 8 gears on the rear, 3 on the front. If it is brand new, then it certainly is a problem with how derailleurs are set up and are easy fix. Ideally the chain should NEVER come off even in case of extreme cross chaining. The cross chaining would cause faster wear and tear of the drivetrain but never falling off of chain.

The shop folks are giving you wrong information - the chainrings need to be absolutely flat or as flat as possible. Any warp on it will cause chain rub (especially on front derailleur) and shifting will be sloppy.

Pity I'm not on the lookout for a new cycle :D (also the seller is looking for local buyers only).
