I'm not sure. The VIN of my car MAJAXXMRKAFC82199 decodes correctly on this site and shows the manufacturing date as 20.01.2015 (I have verified this date on the dealer invoice generated by Ford India)

I have checked all the invoices and forms (20,21,22) for the manufacture date and all of them say Jan 2015 (Form 22 is dated 22nd Jan 2015). So I'm inclined to think that the website is at fault. Is there any other way to accurately check the date of manufacture?

They conned you. The car was indeed manufactured in 18.11.2014.

You can check that in the Ford Etis website. https://www.etis.ford.com/

Click Vehicle, enter the VIN, click Search, take a print out and go meet your dealer.

Thank you. I'm going to take this up. Going to make them pay for this.

Re: ARTICLE: Find your car's date of manufacture (VIN)

Guys, I'm really gonna need your help. How do I go about proving the fact that the car is not of the said year? What should my course of action be? Any help and advice would be appreciated.

Take a printout of the Ford VIN details page and confront the dealership. Since your sales invoice will show billing for a 2015 model, you will have enough evidence to take them to the consumer court. However, if you have already registered your vehicle, there's little chance that they will replace it. But you can certainly demand that they refund the difference in price (Nov 2014 price will be around 5% lower due to the 2014 pricing & excise duty waiver) and throw in 5 years extended warranty + anti-corrosion/underbody treatment + accessories as compensation for defrauding you. Also write to the Ford India MD, Nigel Harris <write2md@ford.com> and Customer Care <custmail@ford.com> and demand compensation. Good luck.

Re: ARTICLE: Find your car's date of manufacture (VIN)

Hi All,

I have booked an Hyundai Xcent SX (O) 1.2 and have specifically asked for a 2015 manufactured vehicle.

Today, the SA took me to their stockyard to show me the vehicle. Below are the VIN details:

MALA841CLFM085672*B

From what I have understood from the earlier posts on decoding, this is a Feb 2015 manufactured vehicle. Can someone please confirm if this is accurate?

Odometer showed 10 KMs done.

Thanks,
Venky

Re: ARTICLE: Find your car's date of manufacture (VIN)

Needed quick assistance with decoding a VIN. Doesn't seem to be tying back with what's been mentioned in the opening post. Just wanted to confirm before, I ask my friend to raise this with the SA. This is the VIN for a Maruti Ciaz VXi+.

VIN: MA3EXMG1S00135686K14BN7078165

Alternatively, could someone share where exactly on a Maruti vehicle can the VIN be expected to be imprinted and we can accordingly ask the SA to snap that or share that with us.

Cheerio,
-Shivang Gandotra

Toyota VIN will have 22 characters.

It's Feb 2015 model. The tenth character 'F' stands for 2015 and the last character 'B' represents the month Feb.

Open the hood to check the VIN. See this Ownership thread for the details.

Re: ARTICLE: Find your car's date of manufacture (VIN)

Hi,

I have been given the following VIN for my Renault Duster (AWD) by the dealer here in Mandi, HP. The vehicle is likely to arrive next week at their yard, currently in transit.

MEEHSRCFNEA001591

As per my understanding of Renault/Nissan VIN, this is an October 2014 manufactured vehicle. Can someone confirm? I am buying an MY2014 vehicle as there are offers on it. Should I be worried that the car is 4-5 months old and what extra precautions should I take in the PDI?

Secondly, is it possible to get more information from the VIN, like a detailed report I have seen for some other VINs on this board? I have tried some online tools, but most provide very basic info.

Finally, there was an article online which mentioned that the ninth character (in this case 'N') should be a digit or X, and there was a method to calculate that character from the other characters (through division by 11, with the remainder being the 9th character). Is this code not followed by Renault in India? I also found somewhere that many manufacturers outside North America do not follow this. Just thought I should confirm.

Thanks.

Congrats for your new purchase. It's Feb 2015 model. The fourth character 'B' represents the month February. The fifth and sixth character represents the production year and in your case, it's 15 which stands for 2015. The tenth character 'F' represents that it's a 2015 model.
