Thank a4anurag, all the details are completely ok. Could you please tell me how you found the data because when I entered into Hyundai GSW it showed that it was an invalid VIN and I also was not able to enter the 19th character of the VIN.

The Maruti Suzuki dealer gave me the following VIN for my new Alto 800 LXI. I am not able to decipher the month/year from this. Can anyone please help?

Hi there McTurbo!

According to T-BHP's VIN Decoder and my general knowledge (pretty low lol:) the 10th character should be the letter 'L' for a 2020 manufactured Maruti. However, since there are two 00's in place of the 10th and 11th characters, there will be 2 more characters after the 17th character. Please ask your dealer for the last 2 characters.

Thanks
Akashdeep

Thanks Akash. You are right. I was asking for the additional characters after the *; for which the sales person send me the photo of the plate. That doesn't have any additional characters. Guess that is how it is coming these days.

I asked for the chasis#, hoping these characters would be there; but somehow they are not able to figure it out (I don't really believe that though).

Then, by book, asked for Form 22 and they gave the first page which does not have anything about year/month of manufacturing. They did give a screenshot of the vahan app which shows manufacturing date as 02/2020.

Therefore, turning to the elite Bhp-ians who can throw some light. The next option is to make that trip to the yard to find out for myself.

Hey McTurbo! You're welcome.

My uncle owns a MS Dzire for which I told him to do the PDI and check out the FORM 22G which had all the necessary information.

Also, even though I'm pretty sure you're well informed about the current situation I'd still recommend you to not visit the yard for the PDI even if you are in a green zone :).

As always, the Elite BHP-ians to comment further on the topic.

Thanks
Akashdeep

You've asked for elite BHPians to help. Meanwhile, I'll suggest this. :D -
Ask the SA for the Whatsapp number of the yard supervisor or stock manager. Have a quick video call with that person. Ask him/her to be at the particular car in question, open it & show you the chassis number. You can direct them to the exact location of where to look for the chassis number based on TBHP
reference sheet here

That should solve it as you'll be able to view the full chassis number. If they refuse still, you should tell them that you are not willing to put money on a car for which you cant confirm the manufacturing date - either by chassis number or form22. Simple.

Thanks Reinhard. Looks like that may not be necessary, as the SA told me that they are bringing the car to the showroom tomorrow. Will be paying them a visit to clarify. I am not very sure how they can bring the car from the yard to the showroom just based on the booking amount of 5K. Overall, something doesn't look very right.

Thanks for this; but I could not find Maruti or Suzuki or Alto in the excel sheet. Nevertheless, it is fairly clear from the previous posts in the forum where to look for it. If I can't figure it out, then it is Form 22. :)

Can you please help me decode this VIN MAT631512LPB51510

Going through this thread made me realise that the Skoda Octavia 1.9TDi we had bought new in 0ct'09 was a July'08 manufactured vehicle. Although this makes no difference to the fact that we have a special place for that car in our heart, but still had I somehow got to know this 10 years back, it would've surely made some difference.

Cheers!
