Re: Maruti-Suzuki Chassis Number Decoding

The decode and example is different for year of manufacture.
It should be 21st character in the eg instead of 10th,right?
Also is it same for the new swift? coz I am going for PDI tomorrow.

Decode:

20th character represents the MONTH of Manufacture
21th character represents the YEAR of Manufacture

An Example:

If your 20th VIN character is L, then it represents the Month - November
If your 10th VIN character is 6, then it represents the Year - 2006

Month Codes:

A = JAN
B = FEB
C = MAR
D = APR
E = MAY
F = JUN
G = JUL
H = AUG
J = SEP
K = OCT
L = NOV
M = DEC

Year Codes:

B=2011
A=2010
9=2009
8=2008
7=2007
6=2006
5=2005

Refer that picture of new swift chassis number location and see the last two characters. It represents month and year.

Re: ARTICLE: Find your car's date of manufacture (VIN)

Hi Wildon,

Thanks a lot for this excellent and informative post. I just booked a Fiat Linea MJD and got to have a first look at my car at the dealers stock yard yesterday. The VIN 18th,19th and 20th characters were FMZ. From you post on FIAT I figured out that my car is manufactured in June 2011. Is that correct? I am taking the delivery in a week from now.

Thanks again for this awesome info.

Regards,

Manoj

Thank you wildon. Any idea where I can get a detailed report of this? Any site, even if I have to pay?

Hi Wildon, thanks for your prompt response. The insurance papers mention the year of manufacture as 2011 whereas your finding is the car was made in 2010: can the insurance info be wrong, and if so what is the implication?

Also, does the VIN refer to assembly month/year in India or whenever the parent company made the CKDs?

thanks again.

The VIN is when the kit was made, hence it could be assembled in India even a few months after that, when the kit is imported. That is why your insurance paper says 2011.

Hi Wildon,

Could I please have a report for the following VW VIN-

WVWE11608BT058388

It should be for a Polo 1.6 manufactured in May 2011 as per your chart. Is it alright to take delivery of a car manufactured in May 2011? Many thanks in advance!

PETROL Car, May be less demand.

Visit the Dealer stock yard to find out latest produced cars are available too.

If you are satisfied with the present allotted car after the PDI then go ahead or else ask from the latest batch.
