The Issue: The 6th and the 7th letters on the VIN have changed from digits to alphabets, please refer to my previous post....

I think in case of GM cars, it's the 9th and 10th letter which tells the year/month of production. AB is Jan'11 and BB is Feb'11. Are you looking to check anything else?

Hello Amit -

You are correct as far as the 9th and 10th digits are concerned but have a look at my post from yesterday, there seems to be a change in the 6th and 7th characters for cars manufactured in Feb and might be there for cars manufactured after Feb.

So just wanted to confirm from all the new Chevy owners(those who have bought in Feb or later) if the 6,7 characters are actually alphabets instead of numbers.

Thanks

Happy Motoring !!

Wildon,

Thanks a lot for decoding the VIN number. For further reference, is it possible for you to share how you obtained the additional information. Is there a website or you have decoded the same from the VIN number i gave you??

is there a reference site i can check. This would be helpful for other guys i come across who would want to obtain this information.

^^
Read post #54 . I have given the link in which everyone can check the production date of VW, Audi, Skoda, Ford and may others.

Hey Wildon,

The Chevy chart is not working for my Optra. The 9th and 10th characters are T and 6. It is a 2006 car. So, I guess 6 means 2006 but what about T?

Hi wildon,

Thanks a lot for the info on decoding the VIN!

I've learned that my car is November 2010 model but really wanting to know the manufacturing date (& even time if possible:D). Could you please help me out in this?

Got it. Thx for quick response.clap:

@wildon

i have seen stickers pasted near the rear windshield of the cars which looked like VIN numbers is this true?

Also i wanted to know; Is the chaises number the VIN?

@ Furebo

Yes VIN = chassis number of the vehicle.

In fact most showrooms are aware of the term chassis number and not VIN.

As always thanx to T BHP :Cheering: i found that my car will be a Feb 2011 model.
