I have just received the VIN for my captiva. the funny part is that Chevy VINs were supposed to have changed from Feb 2011, but if I apply the earlier VIN Decoding it tallies perfectly but not with the new key. what gives?

The seller wasn't aware of VIN concept at all till I told him, he himself checked it with erWIN.Skoda-auto.cz site and told me the
D.o.m.:10.05.2012. It looks like the dealer(Gurudev motors, Chennai) has taken him for a ride. He is tryin to sell the car back to the dealers with the help of some RTO Senior official.
