Yes VIN = chassis number of the vehicle.

In fact most showrooms are aware of the term chassis number and not VIN.

Thanks a lot for the confirmation :thumbs up, was really confused regarding this.

One more question i wanted to ask was that is the chassis number located on multiple places on the car? Because i have observed that a similar number is present in the engine bay, below the driver side door and stickered to the side windscreen.

Any input regarding the same would be appreciated.

Wildon quick one> Sorry I dont have the VIN no yet though I have the engine no as highlighted below :

Without the VIN/chassis number you cannot find the month and year of manufacture.

Please have a look at the guide Wildon has posted and only if you cannot decode the VIN after that, then post your query here.

Wildon, that was a typo, the above no is the chassis no and not engine no.

Obviously I have posted this after referring the guide, and since the above no format was quite different from the one posted under the Chevy section, I have posted this query of mine. And lets leave it to the experts to decide !

Sure thing buddy, but if you refer to his previous posts then you will observe that he has mentioned that he has no further data on the particular Chevy number you have posted.

Anyways, will let the experts decide. A piece of advice: Please don't get offended.

I was just trying to help. :)

Thanks a lot Wildon :thumbs up

I got the Chasis and engine number for the new AStar booked.

Chasis number : MA3EPDEIS00416160 (x)BB
Engine number : K10BN1381684

Based on the chart for Maruti, and the last 2 chars BB, I understand that the vehicle was manufatured in Feb 2011. What more can we infer from the 2 numbers given above?

Thanks and regards
Raghu

If you enter the last 7 digits of your VIN/Chassis number , this gives you month of manufacture and some addtl vehicle type data.
